Games You Have Only Played Once ....

... before giving up on them for whatever reason.

I posted in the thread discussing the silly monster that I only played Shadow of the Colossus once before dismissing it as not being to my tastes (I actually thought it was rubbish with horrible controls)

I also see the Noby Noby Boy thread still going strong, this being another game I dismissed as garbage after a single go and never went back to.

I also recall Burn Zombie Burn on PSN getting one play thru the tutorial and 1st level, I've never gone back (not really sure why, just couldn't be bothered).

I can think easily of several other games, Battlestation Midway, Fable II, Fallout 3 that I bought and only gave 1 bash at before letting them gather dust.

Can't believe I'm alone in doing this, be interesting to see if there is a common game people give up on quickly, a gaming equivalent of Stephen Hawking's Brief History of Time (least finished book of all time)

Everyday Shooter - Yawn. Possibly the most boring shooting game I've ever played.

Prince of Persia - I actually thought this was quite good but having to collect all those light seeds kinda ruined it.

Quantum of Solace - I'll go back to this, probably when I've nothing better to do. Didn't seem that great.

Ibara - Would probably love this if I could see wtf was going on.

Fable 2 - Was bought it for christmas I was too busy playing Dead Space at the time
Street Fighter 4 - Ok so I have played it twice, once for the tournament on here (when I was caned ) , once when my mate came up to visit, Just prefer VF5
Madworld - No offence to anyone that likes it but its just crap, was not worth the update troubles
Demons Souls - It was way too hard for me (at least im honest about it )

my newest one is FEAR 2 - put it on last night, will probably be going on the sale thread today

Think there is plenty more on the shelf

See, the thing is that generally if you play something once then you CAN'T make a sweeping conclusion like that. Everyday Shooter is pure magic when you see & figure out the later levels.

It's a bit like going to a movie and walking out before the end, then complaining the story didn't make sense.

I also have games that I have only touched once, but I'm not gonna say those games don't deserve the praise they got - only that the initial impressions were not good enough to keep me playing. In my case that is Okami. Just annoying and dull for the first hour of play, so I never bothered to keep going and see why everyone loves it.

Sorry (I wrote that badly) thats the one game on that list I did play more than once I remember how long it took to earn extra lives, I only agreed with that opinion of it

I like to give games a fair few goes to see if there are any hidden pieces of sweetcorn lurking within, but I must admit to only playing The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass for about half an hour before putting it down and never returning. Not sure why Minish Cap grabbed me while this one failed to do so.

re: evilthecat - When I finally beat that game I only used 6 starting lives, so it's more about learning to play and earn extra lives through scoring rather than increasing the starting number (which does take a ridiculous amount of time).

Just wanted to say about the Noby Noby Boy thread, going strong is a bit of an overstatement - it's just been me bumping it trying to gain support for the bonus week (any lengths reported today are multiplied by 108).. ok advertising over

Mass Effect for me. Too many ****ign menus and useless bull****. The people who made that game can have no idea what fun is. Why on earth did they think players would want to be bombarded with explanations every 3 seconds with menus popping out of menus and all kinds of boring crap happening. I understand it might be an engrossing game if you read through the encyclopedia of information that is necessary to know what the hell is going on, but that's not a game, that's a course.

                        Megaman ZX Advent.

Played it a bit got to the second boss, found he'd kill you in three hits with your tiny energy bar, was on my last life. The game over took me back 20 minutes and I just couldn't be arsed. I used to get incredibly frustrated at games as a kid (read: got in a blinding rage) and I make a large effort to avoid that now.

                        Eve online

                        Worst tutorial ever?

That's about it, there are next to no games where I don't at least have a decent stab at it before giving up

                          You could:

                          a) rip the disc and apply the deinterlacing patch which cleans it up a little, then use the burned disc in a modded system

                          b) get the PCB because the port is terrible and the graphics on the PCB are just beautiful

If there is one, it won't be something full price. it'll be something like Yaris on the 360. Free so loads of people played it, but universally terrible and obviously so from the very start. Either that or Totemball, which was gack.

I can't think of a game other than those that I've played just once. Generally I know my taste pretty well and if I buy a game, it's because I'm pretty certain I'll enjoy it. If I don't enjoy it from the start, I'll persevere.

I also think it depends on your mood at the time. I've played games and got horribly frustrated one time and then have found them strangely relaxing another. I think it's more to do with me than the game.

Now that we no longer have things like the no quibble Game 10 day returns, I'm surprised someone would buy a game and play it only once (unless we are talking about norty downloads).
