    What if.....

The point of this disscuison is to discuss what would of happend if say, Nintendo didnt have pokemon? Would of they gone the sega way?

Or if the playstation had never exsisted? Would gaming be still be less mainstream as it was back then?.

Thans for joing in and please feel free to discuss other What if... subjects about gaming.

Hmmm good topic. I'm not sure it would have survived without Pokemon, it definitely helped dig the company out of a hole (which it is quickly falling back into). Not sure it would have gone the same route as Sega, it might have done something completely different, but would we live in a better world if they had? I think so. There would definitely have to be more focus on new ideas that's for sure.

Another good 'What if...?' topic would be - Where would the industry be now if Nintendo hadn't canned Sony's SNES CD-Rom addon?

Pokemon didn't save Nintendo. Ok they made a cash warchest with it, but profit wise, Nintendo has ALWAYS made a profit.

For some reason people tend to get confused and see a financial report from a company announcing "lower than expected profits" as a report of losing money. Not true.

Yes the 'Play Station' was going to be the CD-Rom drive, but Nintendo messed Sony about and eventually ****ed them over, signing a deal with Philips. Kutaragi managed to keep the project alive and it was released as a stand alone system, which as we all know kicked Ninty in the balls good and proper. So as I said, where would the industry be now if Nintendo hadn't screwed over Sony's SNES CD-Rom project?

Actually it was Nintendo that backed out of the plan. The courtcases were all rumours around the time of the megaton nonsense.

                Reap what you sow.

Serves 'em right I say. They simply thought they could get away with messing Sony around. I mean what could Sony do about it? Take over there dominance of the games market.

This thread whiffs of Professor Hubert Farmsworth .

                  I'll throw another What-If in:

What if Nolan Bushnell had never got involved with videogames?

What if Sega stuck with Dreamcast, and didn't go third party? We might have a completely different console war.

Or if Microsoft was a Japanese company, no gaijin games for us!

I've often wondered what the industry would be like if Nintendo had gone with the CD format with the N64 and kept all their old allies.

You never know, this generation's console wars might have consisted of just GameCube VS Dreamcast!

What if there were no casual, mass-market games...?

Or...what if the games industry was as big in this country as it is Japan?

This thread should be called 'It'll never happen, but...'

Aw, I'd love it if games went back to the C64/Spectrum days when developers could just let their imaginations run free, with no big publishers telling them what to do!

What If... the NES had never been released. Would videogaming even still be around?

What If... the UK based 8-bit coding scene had never arose?

What If... there had been no SID chip?

What If... we already had all the processing power, memory space and bandwidth that would be needed to simulate anything?

What If... we played games just by sound? Touch? Smell?

What If... Shigeru Miyamoto was Prime Minister?

What if...every country had national gamers day where you had to take a day off and catch up on your game time?

What if...Virtua Fighter was big everywhere else but Japan and Soul Calibur was huge there?

A really big hypothetic, game companies cow towed to the PAL market and made America and Japan wait.
