Every online game I've ever played has eventually been overun and ruined by cheats; TFC, Counter-Strike, Battlefield 2, DAoC, the list goes on. These days I don't even bother with public/open servers, I just play with friends who I can trust.

Some people will always look for ways to try and get an advantage over others, and until a developer/publisher takes serious measures against people caught cheating, they will continue to do so.

I just don't see how they can /enjoy/ it.

I've filed loads of "Cheating Little ****" complaints, but doubt anything comes to it. All the **** on Live, the cheating, the homophobic and racist abuse hurled around, means I never play with random people anyone - except in BF1943 where you've no option (16 players needed for a private game!).

I do not understand the mentality in cheating. Are their lives so insignificant they take pleasure from winning by any means in a video game? I enjoy winning a game as much as anyone else, and when I win, I know it was because I played better. I have no issues losing, I'm there for entertainment. I can see no enjoyment for the little ****es who, for example, hide in walls and shoot people in Gears / CoD / whatever. It's not big, it's not clever, it's infinitely sad and those people need to be grouped together and play solely against each other. Then they'll have a load of fun

I'd love it if MS took a hard stance on cheaters. For a start, look at the people posting the site you posted above, get their Live names, and put them in a special Wankers Group. Look through the stats to see who get high complaints of "Cheating", send Live moderators quietly into their games, and if they witness it, put them in the Wankers Group.

Do that for a thousand people, word will soon get around and it may put some off doing it.

We all know CoD6 will be packed with controller hackers when it's released. This is a prime example of how a dev could easily do something about cheating, but for some reason doesn't want to. They'll argue they can't tell the difference between someone who can really shoot their gun that fast, and someone with auto-fire. I'd say it can't be that hard to tell, surely even the best player can't pump out more that 3 or 4 pistol shots in half a second. If someone exceeds that, have the game jam. A proper player will recognise this limitation and adjust their shooting style. A modded controller will keep repeating the "gun jamming", and if it happens say 3 times a game, the play should spontaneously combust every time they try and use a weapon. And their character should spawn holding a big pink handbag.

And a dick on their forehead.

Wouldn't it be awesome if IW done that.

World at War was patched to stop the autofire pads, but they found a way around it.

Really? Shame. There must be a test they can do. Or simply limit the gun to 4 or 5 shots a second, solve all the problems.

They don't care about winning. The enjoyment they get is from griefing others, and watching them rant/rage/quit. ...The vast majority, anyway.

But most people are in "parties" now, so they don't hear them rant and rage!

Really? But why? What satisfaction can that give them?

Ruining a game for people just to ruin it? Yeah, you'll be right there.

This doesn't really bother me that much and I don't think it's a big problem in well designed games like COD4 for example. The game isn't about two people facing each other standing still with the winner being the person who is the quickest on the trigger. It's about outthinking your opponent on a psychological and tactical level. If I'm shooting a guy from behind, doesn't matter how modded his controller is. And in Gears how many people honestly ever miss their active reload in the first place?

By the same token it's all too easy these days to accuse people of being glitchers, just because they are good. It's extremely annoying when people who can't play very well just bash others with no evidence whatsoever.

Map glitching on the other hand is another issue and again that depends on the quality of the game.

It does seem a bit strange to me that people bother doing it. I'm not really a multi-player gamer like I used to be though so I probably don't even notice when it is happening.

I remember back in the Counter Strike days people used to shout out CHEAT every time you got a kill. That really pissed me off because I sucked at the game, so the few times I actually did well I got accused of cheating! I've had the same in Halo too.

Anyway, with Counter Strike you could get aim bots, wall hacks etc. After I had given up with the game I decided to give them a go, and was shocked at how clever and developed they were. You could litterally just walk around and the crosshairs would jump about to the next available head. Made me feel dirty, because there was nothing to stop me using it, so never played the game again.

...and that's why I've stopped playing Fifa 09 now. You kinda have to cheat to stand a chance, it's not satisying, it's boring, and I don't want to do it. Another game ruined.
