    Your worst videogame mistake...

Anyone made any 'mistakes' in a videogame that adversely affected the difficulty or your opinion of the game?

    Here's mine:

I stopped playing Ico about a third to halfway through because it was so ridiculously difficult. Well, it is difficult when you don't notice the stick that drops right at the start and you rely on headbutting everything

The game remains in my pile of shame. I intend to finish it this year.

Struggle to think of many overt ones.

The ability to save anywhere in the court room sections in Phoenix Wright was something I didn't notice until the second game. Guilty verdict = 20 minutes mindlessly going through dialogue and presenting evidence only to come back to the bit I was stuck on and have 3 chances to get it right.

Mad maestro I thought you had to press the button indicated by the location of the shiny thing. Turns out you can just keep pressing the same button. Actually made the game a bit challenging though (was horribly easy otherwise).

There's the classic "using a megalixer fighting a boss you can't beat". I hate those, they should always at least make it possible to win those fights if you're good enough.

Add that Phoenix Wright one to my list. I never knew you could do that either lol.

Selling MGS3 Pal subsistence for £13.50 posted?

Playing through RE5 without realising you could use the D-pad to quickly select weapons.

        *sigh*

This is a common one in the Fallout 3 thread, but like many people, it was about 20 hours play before I realised you had a light on the pipboy.

Thought of another one (but this is down to poor game design rather than stupidity)

Getting into a fight with a Dark Aeon (Ifrit) just by wandering around in FFX. Ultra hard boss that's impossible to beat without specific abilities (breaking the HP limit) that you can walk into with no warning? I raged (2 hours of playtime lost).

Forcing myself to enjoy Devil May Cry, when infact, the original game was mediocre then and probably holds up even worse now.

Selling dreamcasts when it is a console I always always revisit. Should just store one somewhere!

Going back to that game once I'd purchased the DLC, I couldn't for the life of me remember how to turn that damn light on again!

I felt a tad foolish when I discovered the secret...yet I can't remember it now either.

Never playing any of the Metroid Primes (despite owning them all), buying the trilogy and somehow feeling a bit underwhelmed.

It's maybe because I've only got so far as landing on a planet (after losing all the suit/weapon goodies), so maybe it's a bit premature.

                  Edit:
Ok, okay so I'm gunning through the Chozo Ruins, and okay, I'm starting to see the reason why this game is so well loved. Even though it's aged a bit, the art is lovely.

Spending ages getting through tomb raider 1 on ps1 before realizing the polygon grid system. I was having nightmares with the jumps before I realized lining up at the edge of a grid made jumps easy

Putting Okami "on hold" after 40 hours and then not having a fooking clue what's going on or how to even play the game anymore!

Moving something in a dungeon in Tales Of Symphonia that couldn't be moved back and then saving, meaning i'd have to start the game again to progress losing the 30 odd hours i'd already put in

Swapping my NES + games for a C64 disk drive + games. /thread.

Also: playing MGS4 on easy, then complaining that it's too easy! Like, what the f*** did I expect?
