lol, i did this in POP: sands of time. there was a room with some planets hanging off the ceiling that you had to swing round. one jump involved taking a miniscule amount of damage due to the distance you had to fall and i went into the room with just the tiniest sliver of health and then saved making it impossible to progress. i had to start the game again

I hadn't realised that the energy of the bird boss in Link's Awakening regenerated every time I fell down the tower, nor did I realise that I had to walk into the wind he generated with my shield raised to stop myself from falling off. I kept going back to that battle over the course of a year before I discovered what I had to do.

Second best was waiting a few years to play Blade Runner on PC and saving my game just before a huge explosion killed me. I uninstalled it instead of starting again.

Trading my SNES and ALL my JP/PAL/US games against a Gran Turismo 3 PS2 in late 2001. I had some pretty rare stuff, including PAL Final Fight 3, Hagane, The Firemen, Final Fight Guy (with the CD), that purple box Castlevania (I've forgotten its name but it was the last CV game on the SNES), as well as many of the SNES classics that I still love dearly. I was a proper twunt doing that.

Trading a minty Castlevania: Symphony Of the Night 2CD+book against PS1 GTA1 in early '98 (I will NEVER forgive myself for that).

Buying a Mega-CD 2 from Rumbelows (when they were going into receivership) in early '95. I only bought it to get Snatcher on, and the damn machine buggered up a month or three later, on the day I managed to get a copy.

One of the crappest console add-ons evah the Mega-CD, in my opinion (and I'm only talking MY opinion here...) I didn't like its version of Final Fight, Silpheed didn't grab me, nor did Sonic CD, Batman Returns was a crap Batman game with an ace tech demo tacked on, Soulstar was just a tech demo, Thunderhawk was fun but nowt that great, and the bastard thing conked out before I had a chance to play the one game I bought it for, Snatcher. How cruel and ironic, eh?

I even had a minty PAL Panzer Dragoon Saga, I can't remember what happened to it but it was probably traded against some PS1/N64 crap in mid '98.

I've made far many more mistakes that I could mention. Nowadays, I snag anything remotely niche and hold on to it, buy multiple copies if spotted cheaply. How dumb I've been, though...

The stupid thing is that I do enjoy them a lot, but I never have the patience to finish. When they're considered bona fide classics and I can get them on a handheld I'll actually do it, hence my finishing Final Fantasy VII and Chrono Trigger for the first time this year.

          OK, you win that one.

Should have bought the Saturn version.

Buying Ougon no Kizuna on the Wii. The only Wii game I actually regret buying.

Sold all my Amiga stuff (A1200 with 250HD, 4 external disc drives, tons and tons of games and CD32 with several games) to get funding for an JAP PSX with RidgeRacer and Tekken.... at that moment though it was the best decision because who want to play Nigel Mansell F1 when you can play RidgeRacer ?!!
But now I really regret selling all that stuff..

I did the same with Windwaker, not sure how many hours but I remember it was a substantial amount. Will go back to it one day when RL settles down...

Back when Panzer Dragoon Saga first came out I sold it to a mate at school for ?10. To get another copy back years later cost me ?120

That said I've done the same thing in reverse to other mates since like buying a Neo Geo CD with several games for ?10 and getting ?150 on ebay

I have played about 40 RPG games and every time I get to the last boss I switch it off and never play it again. Not sure why I do this. I also do it with books.

I think I've restarted windwaker 3 times. Get halfway through and then drift...

Not a mistake but still a 'OH NO' moment:-

Completed US Final Fantasy 3 (6) on PAL Snes using action replay (not cheating just as a convertor). 4 mins into the ending the screen fades to the next scene and it stays blank, the music carried on. I waited for the picture to come back hoping it was a glitch, but the screen stayed blank right to the end.

I re-booted the game then beat keifer again and started to watch the ending. The ending was playing and just before it reached the blank screen part I had a big pit in my stomach. 'Please don't stay blank' I said to myself but sure enough the f**ker stayed blank yet the music carried on. Damn action replay! To make matters worse that weekend the program movies, games and videos (remember that?) had a little section on game endings and it stated final fantasy 6 on super nintendo had the longest ending of any game yet. The gods were mocking me!

That was the most gutted I have ever been! It was years later I finally got to see the ending with Final Fantasy Anthology on PS1. Justice!

My biggest mistake was using the 'one save' on FF7 disc 3 right at the beginning!

Recently was playing some RPG and I got to the end after quite a long play but pressed a button and skipped the end cinmatic. There was no way to re watch it without doing the last few hours of game again
