How about the original PS1 King's Field games?

I'm talking about the original games now yeah. The 'Additionals' are PSP games and it's those that I'd heard were dross. I want to know if the original games are any good. Opinion is divided on the matter from what I've read but the same goes for Demon's Souls (which I adore) so I'm wondering if this might be worth a pop.
