The reviews were the only reason I used to buy edge, when they started going awray I quit buying it. I think all the articles in the latter half of the magazine about game engines, software houses and those laughable regular columns (with the exception of Mr Biffo) are total rubbish and are given way too much space. More reviews, less filler please.

Serious question, and I mean no offence, but why are you dissapointed? Does the review score hamper your enjoyment?

It's been made specifically for a very niche audience who'll think it's 10/10 material just by virtue of existing.

KH is a surprise (I would have thought higher than that), but it still doesn't interest me. Again, most of the impressions - even from the people who're enjoying it - make it sound dull and uninspired. Technical prowess doesn't excuse endless grinding and some of the stupidest worldbuilding ever accomplished.
          Good post.

Wonder what caused NSMBW to score "only" a seven?

i remember some excellent japanese dreamcast games (Blue Stinger and Shutokou Battle) only getting 3/10 and i was so furious i was about to write a letter! (sure that would have done any good)

The way i seen it was that such a low score could have put people off buying what i considered to be really good games at the time when imports were harder to get hold off and very expensive). I clocked both of those games several times and still go back to them. Still think the scores that edge gave them was rubbish.

Deffo think their scores are skewed towards developers they are 'chummy' with. I mean 10 for GTAIV, yeah right.

They hand out 8's willy nilly, for quite a bit of crap too.

6/10 is too low for Borderlands - its a very addictive game if you like Fallout 3/any of the COD games/decent fps etc etc, you'll love it.

9/10 is right for uncharted 2

its excellent, but by no means perfect

What about if you don't like Fallout 3?

"Addictive" is such a subjective term that I don't think it has any place in a video game review. Sure, millions of people probably find WoW/EVE/Animal Crossing/what ever extremely "addictive". As many people find them tremendously boring.

Heroin is addictive, it's still not good for you.

These Edge threads always amuse me, and not because of the scores, but because of the reaction they cause - the claims that a score is wrong, that a game should have received x and not y, the apparent disappointment they induce in people who, having played the game, reached a different conclusion.

It feels too obvious saying this but, like all of us, Edge writers review something based on what they personally like and dislike, all they are doing is providing us with an opinion. And opinion, all opinion, is entirely subjective. How can anybody argue that what sombody feels is right or wrong? It's lunacy.

Not the score, no. I will obviously be reading the text of the review which will have an effect on my decision about whether to pick it up at some point. I generally find that games that score a 7 are less satisfying than 8+ and that I chime in with EDGE's general feelings about reviewed games, so I think they are a fairly good guide.

I appreciate that the way I phrased what I wrote made it sound a bit psychotic.

Well i'd assume that if you didnt like fallout 3 or fps type games that you probably wouldnt like Borderlands, nor find it addictive....

I'll look forward to reading the OF2 review. Such a great game, (WIth some very sloppy issues) but even with these the underlying gameplay in coop is really the best of it's type on a console. Do they mention much about coop? Amazing that each mission is never identical with those crafty tangos flanking you!

Say what you like about these threads, but it's always nice when the boys at Edge give a game you really like a great score.

I've always really liked Edge' writing style. Compared to most magazines and the vast, vast majority of gaming sites it's absolutely refreshing to read a well-written review. I have to admit I don't always agree with what's said, but hey ho...:-)

The only thing Edge sometimes lacks for me is a definite passion. The team are obviously passionate, but it can at times seem a little too 'blah'

                                This times a bajillion.

I'm loving Borderlands, but I'll defend anyone's right to give it a bad review. There are a large group of people where the appeal of loot just doesn't do it for them. The Edge review is for them.
