Wait this year has been a bad year for gaming?! I must be living in an alternate reality or something then. A year which has given us top titles such as Killzone 2, Demon's Souls, Forza 3, Borderlands, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Uncharted 2, FIFA 10, Halo 3 ODST, Resident Evil 5, InFamous, Dead Space Extraction, Little King's Story, Madworld, Fight Night Round 4, Flower, Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising, DIRT 2, GTA IV: The Lost and Damned and UFC Undisputed.

We haven't even got the likes of Tekken 6 (officially!), GTA IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony, Modern Warfare 2, Left 4 Dead 2, Assassin's Creed 2, Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time and Dragon Age Origins yet!

Jeez, if this is a bad year for gaming then I would like to know what a good year is?!

        2007

I don't think anyone except PeteJ is saying it's a bad year, I certainly think it's been a pretty good year so far with the best still to come but certainly not up there with 2007 and I think I preferred 2008 personally too.

I have to say I'm much more interested in 2010 once MW2/AC2 is out the way. Crackdown 2 and Bioshock 2

Oh yeah there have been others years that have been slightly better in terms of quality but this year has been full of great games and it has by no means been a bad year for gaming. I would actually argue it has been better, the release schedule isn't as packed which has given gamers time to actually play one good game before the next one is released.

I should know this.... But was World of Goo released this year? That has to be one of the greatest puzzle games made in recent times... Loved it to bits. A modern-day classic.

Unfortunately i've not got myself a PS3 so Uncharted 2 is lost on me, which is starting to become a real pain in the bum because the more I hear the more I'm tempted to pick up sony's beast, but i just don't have the pennys!

I've enjoyed a lot of games this year, but nothing aside Little King's Story has reached GOTY material imo... It is a horrifically ignored title and without a flicker of doubt one of the best games released this year. It's beautifully stylized, wonderfully deep and engaging with so much heart, character and charm. It's easily my GOTY and also probably one of THE most overlooked games this year. Such a shame.

I was waiting for your post Mr Stone, I would have bet my house on you saying Little Kings Story for your GOTY. It was your love for the game which made me buy it.
              Great game.

I think there's been lots of decent games but few outstanding ones.

It's been the best year in a long long time for licences though. Batman and Ghostbusters were both top games.

That said, two of my top games are from the previous gen which highlights some problems with this gen; some very well made, polished, big budget games but not much which has made me go "wow, I've never played anything like this before".

Ha! That actually made me chuckle

Great to hear you picked it up matey, I'm chuffed to bits my random ramblings enticed you to depart with your pennys

It's interesting how this year is percieved as worse than the previous two. For me Street Figher IV and the revivial of the fighter genre as a whole makes this year the best for this gen so far.

And it was his criminal misuse of an apostrophe that made me read the thread. (Only joking!)

Personally, I'd say World of Goo fits that category. Even if it doesn't it's pretty unusual!

                        You bugger!

I remember that... talk about jumping on a shamefully passionate and overly enthusiastic guy's back! Ha, only jesting.

                          I'd suggest

                          Batman
                          inFamous
                          Forza 3
                          Shadow Complex
                          Uncharted 2

I've not played enough Forza 3 to say for sure but this is a pretty close run thing for me between that and Uncharted 2 (completed).

Hmm well for me personally it was Batman AA without excpetions, till Uncharted 2 came along of course. Other than that agree with Shaow Complex and even though it's not out yet, COD: MW2 will be on the list!

I can only go by what I've played, and without owning a PS3 or Wii I can't play a lot.

The last two years have been so strong that 2009 seems weaker to me, doesn't help that many of the big titles were pushed back to 2010.

But I do think Borderlands is great.
