I got seriously pissed off with it when Nintendo locked down the shop region. I had a bunch of ntsc VC and wiiware games that I'd paid for, but briefly went off to purchase last ninja II C64 from the PAL shop and by the time I tried to switch back to the ntsc shop a couple of days later, they'd locked it down so my ntsc wii was stuck in the pal shop region. The only way to get around this is to wipe the shop account for that wii, which I have done (now JPN region), but of course it wiped all the games that I had purchased at the same time.

After that I shunned the Wii for a good while, but Sin and Punishment 2 is in an aeroplane somewhere so it'll be switched on a again soon. I hope it still works after my daughter shoved 3 DVDs into the drive bay at once >-<

Nay . In almost every area its outdated and more importantly out gamed (bar the brilliance that comes out of EAD Tokyo, but that's only 1 game every, 1 or 2 years )

Yay for me. It's the first time I've plumped with a Nintendo console as my main choice in a generation (usually a second or third machine), and I've enjoyed it quite a lot. Both the Xbox 360 and PS3 seemed to me (at Wii launch) to offer more of the last generation, whereas the Wii (with it's last generation hardware, ironically) seemed to be doing something different.

It's not a total success (Wii controls can still be too fiddly/uneccessary; De Blob - I'm looking at you), but yeah, it's been quite good.

        My 360 doesn't really get a look-in.

EDIT: But I will say the region locking and ****ty updates, changes to the terms and conditions allowing them to do updates, etc. have been the most annoying downsides. Thank god the homebrew hackers are adept at this stuff.

            Nay.

The majority of third party games have PS2 level graphics (indeed lots of them are ports), Nintendo themselves are being phenomenally lazy, outputting the same number of titles they did on less popular consoles but actually putting less effort into them.

There's been no effort to innovate with the Wiimote outside of minigames and rail shooters, it's technical limitations have severly limited the scope and the after market motion+ hasn't encouraged more creative use in regular games as of yet nor are there any games coming out that use the Wiimote in a creative way.

To sum it up, the Wii is last gen graphics with minimal new gaming experiences once you've played a few minigame collections. It's severely lacking in RPGs (Tales of Symphonia 2 got pretty awful reviews) and big budget action games.

It's great for occasional parties and playing with friends. As a solo gaming console, it's easily the worst out there.

Yay, just about. Probably less than 5% of the software released on it is actually worth playing, but within that 5% are some really good games.

I don't play mine all that much, maybe a couple of hours a week or something, but I would miss it if it was gone. Fine as a second console imo, but as your sole gaming platform? Forget it.

Mine hasn't been powered up for yonks. But if I were to sell it I know I'd want to play F-Zero or Super Metroid the very next day. Worth keeping for VC SNES & N64 games alone. Plus, Super Mario Galaxy is incredible. Seldom played but still a yay.

                  Yay.
Because i tend to keep most Wii titles after finishing them. PS3 and 360 titles end up traded-in or sold.

I'm agreeing with the point thats been made a few times now. A lot of rubbish released but there are gems along the way.

It’s a nay from me, but it’s very close.

It’s not an awful console (of the 3DO, Jaguar et al ilk) and it’s no longer at the point where I’d struggle to name 5 games that have really excited me about it but at the same time I can say that out of all 5 consoles which would be considered current (360, PS3, Wii, DS and PSP) it’s easily the one I use the least.

At the same time, I don’t really regret purchasing it. Having it at launch when it was THE thing to own at Christmas 2006 meant it got a lot of use when family and friends were around and Super Mario Galaxy is easily one of the finest games I’ve played in years

But these instances haven’t come up often enough in my opinion for me to give it a “yay” vote and I certainly think its games (for the most part) have failed to live up to the promises that Nintendo made pre-launch.

So, not awful, but could try harder.

                      C+

                        Yay for me!
Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime Trilogy and No More Heroes are worth the admission price alone. I've not bought much for it recently, but 2010 so be an awesome year for releases (U R MR GAY 2, No More Heroes 2, Monster Hunter 3, Sin & Punishment2, Other M all spring to mind)

House of the Dead Overkill has **** loads of blood missing, No More Heroes 2 will also and sometimes we don't even get cool stuff such as Mad World, Ghostbusters (Far better than the 360 and PS3 game!) or any of the Rockband titles.
                          Completely agree with this.

The worst thing to happen to gaming in a long time. It's **** in so many ways I don't even know where to begin. If Ant and Dec came round my house to promote an 18 month old game I'd twat Ant/Dec in his fat forehead with my Xbox.

I say yay, purely because when it gets gems, they remind me why I love gaming. For the most part the 360 and PS3 lineups have failed on that part for me. Thats not to say the lineup touches the 360/PS3 lineups... just nothing on the 360 or PS3 comes close to Mario Galaxy etc.
