Music licensing issues are apparently behind its lack of PSN downloadability

I have and whilst impressive technologically for the format they're on the gameplay doesn't hold up to what the new handhelds are promising. I can understand the appeal of them as cheap ways off showing off the systems abilities but I'd take the new Resi on 3DS over iPhone Dead Space anyday. Infinity Blade is a good example, pretty but epic(teehee)ly basic.

certainly packs some firepower. Its all eerily familiar to the pre-lauch hype of the original PSP though.

It will be interesting to see how much it costs though. I have a nagging feeling they will price it competitively against devices like the iphone rather than the DS.

Which, with the lack of well, phone, and subsidised contracts - which i'd imagine is how most people afford / purchase an iPhone is a bit of a failure surely?

Reading the past couple of pages, I think I have a different idea about the worst flaw of the psp (ignoring the go...). I think it's the lack of amazing must own titles, just mediocre examples and let downs. Metal Gear Solid comes to mind...

The must own titles that spring to mind are things you'd expect on the DS like Lumines, Locoroco. Quad core C/GPU, touch panel, 2 analogue sticks is some spec, but when all you've got is a variation of Tetris to play on it, what's the point?

(i'm positioning myself in the if I think it'll be crap, it's gonna surprise me camp)

The question is whether or not people still want console-style games in their pocket.

Sony clearly think that they do- but it could be argued that Infinity Blade has exactly the right level of complexity - and the right price - for gaming on the train. Immersive epics like Uncharted are always going to be better on your big telly.

I suspect that the world of low-priced iPhone gaming has shifted many people's habits and expectations.

It is right down to people saying it cost so much more than Nintendos HH and that ever happened. Also this time SONY have seemed to fixed the 2 biggest issues I have with my PSP (and its by far the best HH I've owned) and that's loading times on the UMD and the lack of a 2nd analogue stick

The biggest issues with the PSP for me personally were size, poor battery life, crummy UI and lack of games that interested me. Glad to see they have fixed all of the above. Ah.

If reports are to be believed, battery life should be pretty much on par with the 3DS. Not that that's a good thing.

I really hope there's no region locking on this. Being able to sign in/out of multiple PSN accounts would be a godsend too.

Logged onto the PSN network today and looked at the US and JPN stores to check out some vids of this. There is nothing there, not a sasuage. I've lost the thread of understanding why they (Sony) would not want to show this off using their proper promotional outlet, instead letting ****ty YouTube videos and Flickr photos do the talking. The mind boggles.

well the NGP announcement has been full of win for just about everyone. Hardcore market has been catered for. Casual market with touch screen, mini's and Android. Tech iPhone/iPad market has also been checked off with its mad power and OLED screen.

All I ask Sony, is a perfect PC/Mac style internet experience with flash. Oh and dont price people out of getting it ffs!!

I'm sold, don't give a toss about touch screen, dual sticks is enough for me.

Any word on region locking? If it has, like the 3DS, then I am absolutely out for handhelds next generation. I simply will not buy a region locked system.
