Far be it for me to actually support a drop in specifications (we all want the best specification possible, after all), but Sony do have to get the price point right with this. I'm glad the hillarious launch price of the Playstation 3 made them realise this. ?250 is the highest they can price this realistically, but even then, they would be wise to aim lower if we're to assume the 3DS will have started to pick up steam by then.

Judging by the hardware, wouldnt Sony be making a massive loss selling at ?250 a pop?

You'd think so. But I also think they'd be nuts to price is any higher.

Based on the light info supplied so far I think I'd go for the budget version, the 3G support doesn't sell me

Yea I thought the 3G version would be for me when this was first announced. Not anymore. Who doesn't have a smart phone/PDA/tablet which can tether other devices these days. Plus the recent uptake in Mifi units.

When you consider Apple can sell a touch at ?190 and make a big chunk of profit, it's probably not that massive. Most of the tech of the NGP is about 2 generations ahead of the stuff in the touch (and 1 gen ahead of the stuff on the ipad2) but die shrinks absorb some of the costs.

This is looking fairly legit so far. No one has been able to find a promo shot of the console from that angle.

Haha! You're kidding yourself. Sony are going to have to take a huge hit on this, it's as simple as that.

As mentioned on GAF: Look out for the re-design being called the Vitalite.

Those buttons, dpad and thumbsticks are looking LUSH! Finally (apart from Pandora) a nice looking setup for a handheld.

                          Looks great, poor name though

stunning looking bit of kit although i'd rather they had the home/start/select buttons below the screen instead of really close to the analog sticks.

Don't mind the name, can't be much worse than the "Wii".

I think it looks a bit too much like the psp. As much as I liked the psp's design, I think it diminishes the WOW factor of the new console quite a bit due to it looking so similar...seems a bit lazy really. Despite this issue, I will be buying one at launch if I can.
