I saw one running UMvC3 at my indie today. I'm very impressed although I can't imagine playing fighters on it to be honest.

I think I'll wait and go back to my ethic of waiting for the total value of the games I want to surpass the value of the unit before purchasing.

Saying that, if I originally did that with the PSP I'd still be waiting for one.

Just been reading up on it & gamertell had an interesting bit of info about trophies. Looks like if your a trophy whore & want to unlock them to boost your score you need to have a new copy of the game as only the original user that first used the cart will get them. Anyone who buys a second hand copy of the game wont get trophies. No idea how sony have implemented that though but it seems they are hoping it's enough to discourage used game sales lol. Don't think it will work though as i doubt gamerscore is that important to the general population.

Gamer score needs banishing to hell for all eternity. I'm only proud of one achievement in my six years, and I would be proud of maybe one more if I ever get around to obtaining it one day.

3DS trolling aside, the Vita's battery fits in pretty much with what the estimates stated they'd be so it looks like the usual modern day tech routine of recharging it at the end of every day.

            Not quite true.

You can reset the game card to factory defaults and you will then be able to unlock trophies on a second account (so shouldn't hinder second hand buyers in anyway, barring any Capcom-like Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D madness). Not great for families/friends who want to share a game cart though.

You have short days. Saying the 3DS battery is total pants is hardly trolling when it won't last a single evening play session, never mind a whole day. The Vita continues this and the 3DS having set a new low really doesn't make it cool.

Saying the 3DS has a poor battery isn't trolling, though making nearly every handheld related post an anti-3DS comment is I've gotten used to the low battery life cycle as it seems like it's something that isn't restricted to purely handheld gaming anymore which is somewhat ironic considering battery life was a major factor in the Gameboy's victory back in the day. However, both 3DS and Vita have reasonable reason as to why they don't have long battery life even if neither are as efficient as they probably could have been. I guess a lot of it is down to player habits too, personally I could never spend all evening playing on a handheld anyway. They're very much a waiting room/public transport/toilet pass time for me so that will add as to why it's less of an issue to me.

Well I'm hoping that bit isn't pointed in my direction. Even with how things have changed (and they have), I find the battery life fairly unacceptable. It was rightly a point of ridicule for the original PSP and yet now we're actually worse off than that. Makes me want to break out my old Game Gear.

But you're right - a huge amount is down to player habits. I tend to play in bursts (like twosies trips) and then the odd extended period but those bursts add up and there are few things as frustrating as when it claps out in the extended periods. Just feels like a frustration that shouldn't be there.

Yeah, I play handhelds like I play a regular console. I never pick up a handheld for 5 minutes of angry birds so the battery limit on the 3ds was terrible. As someone else already said, such a change from Nintendo's previous famed long battery life handhelds. Disappointed at the Vita battery. I'll wait for a UK model and for mem card prices to drop and an extended battery to appear and a couple more games and then I'm in!

Battery life on everything new seems to be mince these days. I have an HTC load of crap phone & I need to charge that every 1-2 days, & that's with light useage. God knows how often I'd have to do it if I wanted to make a phone call.

It is a shame that in amongst all this technology nobody can be bothered to focus on improving the battery for any of these machines though.

The PSP issue was/is solved with the investment of the 2200mAh battery. I get just over 12 hours on a single charge. That's more than enough IMO.
                        Kept you waiting, huh?

12 hours is fantastic. TBH I only ever had issues once with my PSP 2000 and that was on a pretty long flight. Even then it wasn't an issue because I had a spare battery. That'd be nice on modern handhelds too, user replaceable batteries - I'm assuming the Vita doesn't have this?

Vita is a closed unit. I gather that's the reasoning behind that USB battery thing. Sucks really. An extended battery would have been a good option IMO.

I assume the lack of removable battery is to avoid pandora battery-esque security risk.

That could have been avoided by making a battery that was just a battery!
