    Nope, not in your direction

I think with the 3DS Nintendo decided on the 3D gimmick and that pretty sealed the deal regarding most other decisions on battery, they likely thought their popularity would compensate. It probably will in the long term but it likely rammed the point home when the 3DS initially struggled. The immediate requirement to power a strengthened backlight and three screens means we'll probably never recieve a revision that has a solid run time just like the power requirements on the PSV's OLED will likely cause it issues permanently. Unless a cheaper solution appears in the next few years I wouldn't be surprised to see the 3D screen removed from Nintendo's next handheld. Hopefully the eventual PSV revision will be solid enough of an improvement. I don't think I could be bothered with the battery extension they're doing.

I wouldn't be surprised if you're right but, man, it would seem like a shame. The 3DS has really sold me on 3D. Everything seems so flat after I've played it. It's one of those things I had to experience myself to really appreciate but I honestly thought that alone, once people got a chance to try it, would sell the 3DS regardless of anything else. That Nintendo seem to be pulling back on the focus on 3D in their marketing suggests otherwise. But then I guess, as we have discussed before, they probably had a major branding problem by associating it so closely with the DS.

Does the Vita's OLED screen require more power? Yeah the battery extension thing seems like a bad idea. I mean, I'm sure it works and it's not too huge or anything but it's a real visible manifestation of the battery life problem.

I'd imagine it uses less than the 3DS's combined screens but probably still chomps due to the size and strength of backlight required for the area. Seems worth it though, every video and pic makes it look clear as a bell with very vivid colour display.

OLEDs don't have backlights. For typical gaming applications they use about 70-80% the juice of an LCD. 3ds needs more backlighting than usual due to the double layer of the 3d screen. I imagine the power drain on the Vita is all to do with the quad core cpu, gpu, multiple touch inputs, gyro etc. I'm just speculating mind, I don't know.

I caved. Got the system from an eBay seller and games/accessories from Play-Asia. Doubt it'll come before next year but let's all cross fingers for me.

Hi people, I just got myself a PSVita, and I'm trying to access the UK Playstation store on it using my UK account, but it says store is unavailable in my region, what gives? My Japan account works fine... Is it because the UK store doesn't have Vita support yet? Wasn't expecting any Vita stuff on there, but this is my main account for trophies and PSN content.

The UK Playstation Store presumably won't be available until the UK launch. That shouldn't be a surprise. Can you still use the PSN account itself, sans the store?

According the to the japanese Vita manual, the battery is removable.

Yes I can: I can see friends and access settings.

Oh well, I'll have to buy hard copies of games until the UK store opens...

I know it's at me, I don't mind though. I think Nintendo deserve all they get with dramatic drop in share prices, If they continue to produce low end, uninteresting tech it's to be expected.

                          Oh snap.

There is some degree of truth in that though.

Uninteresting tech? 3D, without glasses. Only games system that does that as far as I can see.

I dont really want to go into it, but if you must reply like that...

Yes but its poorly implemented and can barely be seen unless your statue that doesnt move, the crappy super low resolution screens dont help its cause either.

I can't test this at the moment, but I think it should be ok.
