I admit to owning perhaps more limited/collector editions of games than I probably should do, but I usually find them worth the additional cost. I'm a sucker for a good quality art book and maybe a soundtrack CD.

Of course, when greedy publishers feel the need to double the price for an extra trinket or two (ACII's Black edition springs to mind) then they can gtfo. The only thing I'd really miss from that set are the extra missions, which will hopefully become DLC at some stage.

First Special edition I've bought in a long time was Agarest: Generations of War.

Great box, nice artbook and manual... Shame they put absolutely no effort into localising the game and it's got a shockingly piss poor translation that makes the game near unplayable.

Not gonna be buying another special edition for a while methinks.

I never buy limited editions as stuff like figurines, art booklets, special cover art, etc. don't interest me. I can appreciate they help create a stronger background or culture to a game but I also feel that they can persuade gamers, perhaps subconsciously, into rating a game higher than it deserves. At the end of the day all I care about is the game I see on my TV.

I used to buy them if there was one available, but now I've cut back a bit and only really go for them if I see some worth in it or if it's part of a series where I have a stupid compulsion to buy anything and everything (hi Castlevania).

I stretch to get limited editions if I like a game enough, I have bothered with Fallout 3 and AC2:black edition recently. I sometimes get steel books , I think most of them have been from when its been the same price or less to get the steel book version though :P

The only CE's I'll buy ever again are the ones that have ingame content (stuff like the Forza 3 set and upcoming ME2). Every other company out there can thank Eidos for the crap they pulled with Batman as to why they'll probably never see my cash again.
I saw an unboxing video of the Batarang before it was released and that stopped me getting my pre-order.

I pre-ordered the MW2: Prestige Edition early on, but cancelled that near release and went for the £26 version from Sainsbury's instead.

60% of the time, it worthless buying LE everytime. Why would you want to clutter up your house with items that make you look like a geek.

And do get me started on Steelcases, increase postage cost when you want flog it on... clever.

Do many people have large game 'collections' for their modern consoles? I can't say I've ever owned more than ten titles for any modern machine at once, it always makes me laugh when you see some peoples shelves and they have 46 360 games and 50 xbox games underneath, ... are you ever going to play those again to warrant keeping them? Also if you've played it once and just shelved it, it'll decrease in value from being new and you might as well sell it after finishing and then pick it up cheap if you fancy playing it again. I dunno.

I don't keep any modern games long enough to bother with Ltd editions nowadays, you tire of all games eventually - no matter how good they are. I liked MGS4 and the first uncharted but after finishing them about 4/5 times each theres no way in hell I'm keeping it on my shelf in case I want to play it again, it'd probably make me physically sick doing so.

I'm the same, I own both the 360 and PS3 and I only have 4 games. I get new releases and once I finish it, I sell it on. I never replay a game once I finish it, much like films, which might explain my 3 movie collection.

I should just start renting really, if you pay £40 for a game on launch (which I admit I never do anymore, I always buy used on here or ebay), You play it once, maybe twice, sell it on for £26 or whatever, thats £14 you just paid for two playthroughs! I know other entertainment is expensive also but I often think its just not worth it sometimes. Especially with recent trends of recently-launched games being half price even weeks after release. I don't see the point of buying 3 games at launch for full price and then not having time to play them, finishing one and then getting started on the other two a few weeks later when they probably would have been a load cheaper.

On the whole, I don't care much for LE/CE versions of games. A lot of premium-priced hype, imo.

The PAL SFIV CE was a no-no without the OST CD that the NTSC regions got (which turned out to be a crippled version of the 2-disc retail version, anyway). I really wanted the Steel Case that came with the US version of Metroid Prime Trilogy, and got my fingers kinda burned when it became clear that the PAL version didn't have the case. And I can't think of a single reason to purchase the LE/CE version of New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

...All that said, I'm purchasing the LE/CE version of Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks this Friday!

Only from games I really like, I always like the special boxart, but most of the time the LE editions don't offer anything special except a nice cover.
I think more could take example of Turn10 about what they did with Forza3 LE, I think it's the only LE edition of the last years that really does makes it worth the extra money, yes you get the usual nice box and in this case a USB stick and a keychain, but what it make stand out is the ingame extra's you get like extra cars from the start and you get once in a while a few extra gift cars designed to specific new games send to ya for free, and they have more things like this coming special for LE owners. It's little things like this what makes it worth for me.

                              Others I really like:
Halo3: Legendary Ed. (chiefs helmet is amazing)
Gears of War (love the tinbox and booklet)

Thinking about getting the spec ed from Bayonetta as well...

I have a soft spot (well, a hard spot.... we really need the rllmuk sleazy face picture on NTSC-UK) for LE/CEs. Put a game in a tin, or add in some tat and you'll get my cash faster than an RBS banker gets taxpayers money in his bonus this year. I quite like some of the NTSC-J 360 LE/CE stuff you can get, as they are ruinously expensive to import, and often contain a DVD or OST CD which I'll never watch or listen to, or some DLC I can't ever be bothered to download. The Death Smiles LE being a good example.

Was most disapointed with the Gears 2 CE. Different shape/tin/contents to the first one, and not enough Cliffy B splitting up with his girlfriend in the documentaries.
