My mate is still on SD, as he upgraded to a Trinitron widescreen just before LCDs kicked off, and has around £5k saved up for an upgrade.

The bastard is going to make me jealous very soon. Saying that, if I was still in my flat I'd have to wait for 3D projectors anyway, which I couldn't afford for a while.

I think it is nice idea but it came too late for me as I spend 1,500 pounds on Panasonic V10 50 inches Plasma TV last summer. There is no way I will upgrade this. But if I move out and got money (and suitable room) I will look at 65inch ish display to see if it affordable.

I want new blu ray player and upgrade amp and speakers first. (No plans for either)

I'm about to upgrade my projector but Im not waitin around for 3D. There is that Benq w600 model out but honestly I'd take a quality 1080p model over that any day. The next big thing in projectors is going to be LED bulbs... 30,000+ hours and no degradation.

I'm looking at picking up the Epson TW3500 cheap as chips from the US and then I am sitting it out for a couple of years till all this 3D nonsense is really established. Right now I am more than happy with bluray resolutions on a 120" screen. 3D just isn't worth it right now IMO.

excuse my ignorance, but could a ps3 firmware update add 3d bluray functionality or only 3d game support?

I believe so. Officially 3D is part of the hdmi 1.4 spec and that needs new hardware. However, it is possible to implement 3D using partial 1.4 support. Given that a ps3 can output 1080p at 60fps already them I'd say it's certainly hardware capable of supporting 3d blu rays.

Hi everyone! The moment is here -- starting tomorrow, high-definition stereoscopic 3D gaming will be available in your very own living rooms! As you already know, all PlayStation 3 systems are already equipped with everything they need to play stereoscopic 3D games. Thanks to a free firmware update released this past April, the PS3 system [...]

              • WipEout HD (full game): Experience the adrenalin rush of navigating the twists and turns of futuristic racetracks at breathtaking speeds like never before.
              • Super Stardust HD (full game): Experience asteroids fly past you as you navigate the deadly battleground ? only a battle on a cosmic level will save the indigenous life below from destruction.
              • PAIN: The stereoscopic 3D content will include the Downtown area and tutorial along with three modes, including two new modes created specifically with stereoscopic 3D in mind, Alien Toss and Ice Breaker.
              • MotorStorm Pacific Rift (demo): MotorStorm Pacific Rift in stereoscopic 3D puts you in the driver?s seat of a buggy for a one track, single player race around the deadly Kanaloa Bay for a dangerously real battle against ruthless opponents.
              Available from tomorrow.

Is there 3D projector ? for home market.

I have seen 3D gaming video in a Sony Store in Barcelona and it is very good.

I wonder why can't Panasonic make my TV work with 3D TV with simple firmware upgrade. apart from HDMI 1.4. I think it is very sad this is not possible.

I'm sure there are technical limitations but, even if there weren't, they want you to buy a new TV.

Tomorrow, there will be a special PlayStation Store update, which will usher in a new era of videogames where you can truly feel part of the action. By downloading the 3D Collection you can play WipEout HD, SuperStardust HD, PAIN and a MotorStorm Pacific Rift demo in amazing stereoscopic 3D. You can download all four [...]

                      EU version:

You can download all four for the bargain price of €29.99 or pick them up for free when you buy a Sony Bravia 3D TV package. Of course, if you already own WipEout HD, SuperStardust HD or PAIN, there will be a free software update, so that you can play them in 3D

They said there'd be an update in June, and Joe said June 10th. So maybe, if not there will be one this month.

all this 3d stuff is just a bs fad, just like smell-o-vision, i hope it fades into obscurity (well, in films at least, but i cant see there being much different, cept this time instead of paying 10quid to get in i have to pay 1000 for a new telly)

I don't think 3D will take off big time due to needing new TV as most people probably upgrade their TV to flat-screen TV already and the facts we have to wear glasses and not ideal for family.

Jack Tretton has already confirmed it as tomorrow with WipEout HD, PAIN (Already available in Japan), and a demo of MotorStorm Pacific Rift joining SuperStardust HD.

Apparently people buying a 3D Bravia tomorrow on will have the games chucked in with it. PAIN was the first game to get a 3D update but unlike the others the update was Y300 in Japan.

                                In your face 45!

                                *flex*

                                edit:

But yeah, I'm having trouble concentrating hard and expending massive efforts to care less than I do already about 3D gaming.

I secretly think John is a planted Sony sales rep too, or at least marketing.
