That story is across various gaming websites at the moment, and is well overdue as far as I'm concerned.

It's been known for years that there are many people who can't see any 3D effect on films etc (myself included unless I _really_ squint in one eye), but this issue has been discarded by the various industries trying to market 3D yet again. I guess I can't blame them, as you wouldn't want to advertise any downsides to *cough* 'new' technology.

It does make you feel somewhat alienated when various companies/manufacturers are pushing something that you can't even use though, even if it is just a gimmick.

Also had to laugh when Ubi went out on a limb and said
"It'll start slowly this year. But like HDTV I wouldn't rule out the fact that this will be installed in everyone's living room in three year's time, and for us to be in a position to have content that could really look absolutely amazing in 3D."
Seriously Ubi I know a few people who have only JUST bought a HD set and felt great about taking that jump, don't think they will want to jump again for a while.
That really is where this all falls down. Most people who bought a HDTV recently had their aging CRTs for at least 5 years, and wanted one of 'those flatscreen TVs'. The fact that they were HD compatible was a bonus, and something that few take advantage of outside of gamers. Getting people to buy another TV so soon, when most people are expecting the glasses to disappear at some point anyway, is going to be a bigger challenge than trying to sell Blu-Ray has been.

Yep. I am a gadget freak, big gamer, blue-ray watcher, Sky HD watching couch potato. I can see 3d an appreciate it at the cinema no problem. I also have no intention of buying a 3d television. If and when my TV breaks then I will choose a new TV based on the same criteria I did for my current one and that TV either will or won't have 3D.

That said, it's Eurogamer Expo soon so maybe that'll change my mind (playing Avatar in 3D last year didn't sell the idea to me!).

I think the only way it could take off is if they did it the same way they sold HD - eventually all TVs supported HD as standard anyway, so they managed to get HD into people's living rooms indirectly. But this will be difficult for them whilst they still continue to use expensive, manufacturer-locked glasses (and normally only come with 2 pairs).

They would also have to accept that fact that the uptake will be much slower this time.

This is me pretty much. Although I'm going to go out of my way to make sure I don't see any 3D games (Particularly KZ3), because I know I'll cave.

Just seen it mentioned that the PS3 will have 3D YouTube support within the next 12 months as well. Which is both awesome and puzzling.

For when you and your other half want to watch different things on the same TV.

Apparently, the 3D mode on games generally lose 1080p mode because HDMI 1.4 only supports 3D 1080p at 24fps, which is less than ideal for games. It cannot do 3D 1080p at 30/60fps.

Interesting reports from Develop last week say that Sony is mandating 720p for all 3D titles, even though Blu-ray 3D mo…

A bit different to the current 3D stuff but at SIGGRAPH yesterday Sony demonstrated a prototype of what they called the RayModeller.

It's obviously very early and a long way from being able to tell Obi-Wan that he's our only hope but it's still sort of impressive at this early stage.

The RayModeller is stunning. That's the future for games, right there. Standing in the middle of a true 3D display.

Sony's Blu Ray 3D patch should be available by the time Avatar 3D will be released on Blu Ray later this year.

also, i don't know if it's been confirmed but i've played GT5 in 3D already at gamescom

MotorStorm Apocalypse is coming in 2011, but to fill the gap with equally stunning 3D racing right now, MotorStorm 3D Rift is coming to PlayStation Store next week!
MotorStorm 3D Rift is due to be released exclusively on PlayStation Store on 25th August 2010.

                          £9.99 tho

Do you see the price as an issue for people who have paid top whack for 3D TVs?

Is that for the entire second game? or is it a punny update? if its the second game in 3d then that's pretty good value?

                                its 10 tracks i think.
which seems to be pretty good to me, just a shame they are from the full game rather than new, otherwise i would grab it. its still playable on a normal tv isnt it?
