Just over a year for a sequel to an RPG with what the developer claimed was such a huge amount of content the time spent making it justified that there was launch DLC pimped by in game NPCs?

hmm... This is going to be a glorified expansion pack isn't it? Or are we going to end up with another rushed out KOTOR2?

Enjoyed DAO but it didn't have the customisability, the amount of content and the depth that BG did.

They are saying something big is coming for Mass Effect as well.

I wonder if they have had two teams on each franchise?

So as the first DA game went into production, a smaller team started doing the pre-production on the sequel and then the first team rolled on to the sequel team.

It would be a sensible way of doing it and after all, the hardest work is making the tech and solving the design problems and that is all done.

However doing it that way also means you don't learn from mistakes of the first game because you're most the way through design before feedback for the first game starts coming in from the public.

There were major balance issues in the first that you can exploit to make the game ultra easy. Most of which revolve around mages being overpowered.

You could argue that. You can also argue that as soon as you hit halfway through making a game you start becoming incredibly aware of all of the design problems and a preproduction team is already working to resolve them.

I don't want to sit here and say that it will be perfect or won't be an expansion pack, I'm just theorising how they might be doing the sequel.

The real question here though is are they improving the visuals because I think in 2011 Dragon Age will look orders of magnitude worse than it does now.

See, I would mock you, but one very clear distinction for me between Mass Effect 2 and DA was in the former I actually ended up talking to the characters to learn more about them as people, and found them interesting enough that the love scenes were more of an annoyance than anything else - because they meant the conversation trees were over and done with - but in the latter I was so bored with DA's storyline (or lack thereof) that a large part of my motivation was trying to get my lady adventurer into Morrigan's pants.

Morrigan was an annoying bint. I wanted to smack her in the face.

If you're playing on PC, you do know someone's modded that in, right?

I didn't say I liked her, I was responding in typical hetero man-child fashion to any female in a generic fantasy universe wearing a ridiculous outfit designed around their supposed sex appeal. I'm not proud of it, but there wasn't really much else there to interest me.

This. It looks like a PS2 game. Also, I'm not really sure what tech they had to invent for DA; Looks like it was made up of tech that's been around for about 10 years already

                    i was a massive baldurs gate 2 fan...loved knights of the republic...planescape torment...icewind dale

but i could just never gel with the first game...i felt it was to generic and just had loads of little things that just bugged...and that was on the pc was wondering how it was on the console

Don't touch the console version. I was unfortunate enough to pick up the console version first, traded in the next day for the pc version. An absolute terrible port in every single way.

Official reveal for this expected today apparently. Once I'm done with Darksiders I think I'll pick up the original on PS3.

PC version is obviously vastly superior, but I never got to try it for myself. Thats why I didn't hate too much on the Ps3 port.

Its not a game that you'll like right away, but I got hooked after a few hours of playing and ultimately finished the game + Soldiers peak, Return to ostagar and Shale's quests. One of the best RPG's i've played. I am still waiting for Awakening to drop in price on PSN as shelling more for this than I did for the actual game is kind of silly.

Which also means i'm not really looking into DA2... yet.

Yeah, I've just picked it up for £13.

I could play it on the PC, but I'm happy enough to play a slimmed down version (Just looking at the wealth of options on the PC version has put me off). I played Fallout 3 for 80 hours on console, so technically janky buggy games don't hold any fears for me.
