...and by Jove is it a big difference!

Vertically, it's actually the same as SD PAL. Not that I think the 360 version is any less of a game.

So do I miss much only having an SD telly playing the 360 version?

Wait, so the whole gameis reduced resolution on the 360, oronly the cut scenes are reduced resolution?

            PS3 - 1280x720 in-game, 1920x1080 cutscenes.
            360 - 1024x576 in-game and FMV.

              thats a pretty big difference....

looks like bluray is the way to go for these large multi disc games, in order to keep the high resloutions

joke. Seems to have been discussed more than the game!

There's some compression artifacting and a visibly slightly lower res in the FMV on 360 but I haven't even noticed a difference in game...

Do you have a 1080p resolution TV Randicoot?

Well, no. And that's a good point.

EDIT: But hold on, the game still only runs 720p in game on PS3, like the vast majority of other titles seemingly? Hmm, standing by it not being nearly as big a deal as it's made out to be.

Yeah, cut scenes are 1080p though so on a big 1080p, TV there'd be more difference. The difference between 576p and 720p is much less than the leap from 720p to 1080p. It's possible that the upscaled 720p->1080p on the PS3 means that in the end, when viewing on a large 1080p tv, the difference between upscaled 576p of the 360 and upscaled 720p/true 1080p of the PS3 is more noticeable.

I thought the issue was also the underlying engine port was not very good, so you get more dropped frames etc on 360?

                        So:

                        - Less resoultion in game
                        - Less resolution/fidelity in FMV
                        - Need for multiple DVD installs/swapping
                        - Poorer ingame FPS/effects

It doesn't happen very often, but a clear win for PS3 in my book.

The framerate is actually slightly better on the 360. Plus if you're playing the PS3 version in SD its in 50hz.

The framerate, 99% of the time, is identical on both machines. At a couple of points the 360 manages to keep the framerate up where the PS3 didn't but you need a video output analyser to even detect it. They guy at Eurogamer was looking for ANYTHING that made the 360 version have some kind of advantage. lensoftruth actually has the PS3 at a higher FPS most of the time. Sadly lensoftruth and Eurogamer both chose to run both versions at 720p even though the PS3's cut scenes are 1080p.

the tecnhical aspects of the ps3 bayonetta was pretty much the same. It is pretty ropey though....

Tested both sent 360 one back. Huge difference on my Sony X panel running at 1080p. 360 is very blurry just doesnt look very nice at all compared to the PS3 one.

Very much like Bayonetta after you play one version you just cant go back. No good for double dippers just get this one on PS3 and avoid the 360 one if your a multi fan cas you will be in for a serious shock side by side!
