Yeah because teamxbox tend to give a lot of average games high scores.

And don't be a hypocrite Charlie. You always going on about Edge reviews to me. It's like a holy bible to you when you want it to be. You were telling me Mass Effect 1 was average because it got a 7 from Edge, but when you actually played it you said it was great. So the moral of the story is not to trust Edge. And be serious now, if Edge gave Fable 2 a 6 would you agree? So what if people don't agree with the scores? Let them defend their gaming habits. Otherwise it would be boring us all saying nice score Edge, like another forum you visit. The point of this thread is not for me to post scores and all to agree.

Edge represent my Holy Bible? You only need to check the First Play threads to see I frequently dislike games which Edge think highly of. Mass Effect 2 and MW2 are two recent examples.

But I make no secret I like the magazine. Their writing style, especially, appeals to me. But more importantly when I'm contemplating spending £40 on a game, I don't want some giddy review written high on hype and drunk on love, I want a level headed and discerning (or cold, as many seem to see it ) opinion which clearly conveys both a game's strengths and weaknesses. That way I'm better able to ascertain whether the game is likely to appeal to me.

Anybody would think that edge is some kind of review writing computer whose logic and consistancy should be flawless.

Face it, all this complaining is just the Internet. I've read plenty of occasions where eurogamer or ign reviews gets slagged off for being too high for game X and their credibility as reviews sites called into question only for the same forum member to get all giddy because a game they really want has been given a score they want to see.

Without some kind of weird hive mind type reviewing system there is no way everybody will always agree with what they have to say. Can't we just stop the moaning and accept this printed opinion for what it is?

"I don't know. Sometimes Edge and GamesTM are guilty of giving low scores just to cause controversy. See their Assasins Creed 1 and Mirrors Edge reviews respectively. But to be fair even teamxbox and xbox world gave FF13 a low score."

Years ago on another forum, an Edge writer admitted to us that his review of a game was downmarked from a 9 to an 8 by the editor because it clashed with the cover review which was also a 9.

To be fair, I can see why Mirror's Edge wouldn't be seen as a great game by some and Assassins Creed is a 4/10... like AC2 ;p

It's worth remembering that anyone reviewing a game is a human being, possibly with an agenda or a boss with an agenda. I enjoy pointing to Edge and GamesTM's biggest disagreement every now and then:

Metacritic aggregates music, game, tv, and movie reviews from the leading critics. Only Metacritic.com uses METASCORES, which let you know at a glance how each item was reviewed.

Edge actualy got it right with Boiling Point, that was awful.

Not sure what the games tm reviewer played, it was so bugged that even if it had have been a good game you couldnt enjoy it.

It wasnt a good game though, at all.

From ex-writers, even posting anonymously. You'd think after being around for nearly 20 years that it would have come out of the woodwork by now. Some of the original Edge writers aren't even in the industry any more, but there's been nowt.

Why are GamesTM and Edge the most talked about magazines on all forums? Because they hand out the most controversial scores.
No, because they are the only UK multi-format magazines that cover games in a mature way. No-one gives a crap about OXM scores because they are an official mag and their reviews often read like press releases.

Assassins creed may have been boring to you, but it was no way a 4/10 game. Just like Mirrors Edge wasn't a 5/10 game.
I liked Assassin's Creed, but many people clearly thought it was rubbish so the idea that this is evidence that they are controversial for a reason is laughable. Same with ME.

And Edge gave AC 7/10 (the same as NTSC-UK!). If you're going to fling mud around, at least get your facts right.

Are you sure that wasn't Games TM when Cacky threw his toys out the pram at his Armored Core review?

Besides, Edge very rarely have cover reviews. Usually the cover is a preview of a forthcoming game or a collage of loads of games.

That game was broken . Big time. Maybe if the games tm reviewer flukes his way through the game without a single glitch it would of been ok. It was just like the fps shooter version of oblivion, it was just too broken though

I heard he went down to EDGE HQ ready to knife someone up.

It was not. I've heard about this. It's my understanding that it was Skies of Arcadia, and having two 9s was frowned upon because it detracted from the 'main' review, so it was sunk to an 8.

Well, if it's true it's bloody stupid. But it remains an' if'. I can think of several Edge issues where two games received a 9.

It can't be that. SOA was reviewed in issue 93 which had a total of.....zero 9/10 reviews.
