Ah. Maybe Shenmue getting 8 then under Majora's 9. I've only heard this second hand, maybe some of those ex-forum boys could fill in the gaps.

having a quick look through that database they gave Chrono Trigger 7/10
the magazine isn't even still credible. they were just in the right place at the right time when gaming didn't have a pretentious film review-type magazine out there and they provided that format for people.

I have nothing to add, but could I just say that I am enjoying this thread a great deal.

        Please...continue!

They scored one of my favourite games of all time, Super Metroid, a 7 too if I remember correctly but so what. The odd peculiar score or score I strongly disagree with doesn't undo their library of great reviews. I'm sure everybody is guilty at some point or other of not thinking much about a game only to realise, a few months or years down the line, that it was something rather special.

I imagine there's quite an extensive list of controversial 7's. NiGHTS (Saturn) is another.

There are undoubtedly some embarassing scores in Edge's history, misjudging some iconic games (although they stick by the 7 for NiGHTS) but ultimately it comes down to 'different people, different opinions'.

As long as scores are properly justified in their reviews (or at least the reviews minus the score are interesting), it's not a huge biggie. Only thing I wish is that they'd get some consistancy in some aspects. Chiefly: perfectly fine sequels pandering to a fanbase that likes them but ultimately does very little new. Decide if this is a good thing or a bad thing and stick with that view point.

I think from what I remember, the main review game only got an 8 so Skies of Arcadia was pushed back to an 8 so it didn't over shadow the main feature review.

That really does seem unlikely, since there are countless occasions when the lead review is not the highest scoring in an issue.

I think they were trying to gently introduce a new audience to the J-RPG. Sadly it ended up kicking existing fans in the teeth. Can't say I agree in the slightest with them though about it being a "boring trudge". I'm about 10 hours in and I'm loving it so far. Sure it could be better but I'm curious about the story, loving the art direction and I'm actually quite enjoying the battle system.

Soukyugurentai said it all with their review sub was removed after that and laughed at the Edge review threads ever since! FFXIII review was a joke.

Im looking forward to getting stuck into GOW III this week (currently going thru 2 for the first time in the double pack) so I can see for myself why its not as good as Bayonetta in their eyes when most of the press are getting huge blue pill not needed erections over it.

No, because they are the only UK multi-format magazines that cover games in a mature way. No-one gives a crap about OXM scores because they are an official mag and their reviews often read like press releases.

I liked Assassin's Creed, but many people clearly thought it was rubbish so the idea that this is evidence that they are controversial for a reason is laughable. Same with ME.

And Edge gave AC 7/10 (the same as NTSC-UK!). If you're going to fling mud around, at least get your facts right.

Are you sure that wasn't Games TM when Cacky threw his toys out the pram at his Armored Core review?

Besides, Edge very rarely have cover reviews. Usually the cover is a preview of a forthcoming game or a collage of loads of games.
Read my post. I said GamesTM also who gave AC 1 a 4.

But I find myself agreeing with GamesTM much more. Edge seem to have a boner with Halo. They even give the expansion park ODST a 9.

Remember playing ODST what a terrible terrible game. Couldnt get it finished quick enough for campaign. Its stuff like that what puzzles me with Edge being so great at reviewing. If thats the case then how come they can pan other games for being the next in the series and still the same but with ODST which looked like a Xbox 1 game and that someone got let loose on co-op/1p with a construction kit they give a 9 to. Even the online it was the same maps and the horde mode got old quick.

I felt same about MW2 as well though, terrible 1p game same game as before but with worse story and online a game Id already played. Not really a earth shattering game to give such high praise to if its so called Edge Gaming bible. BFBC2 has already surpassed it for online.

AC1 was boring worst game of year for me funnily enough ODST was last year pml!

*sigh* Because a great review isn't necessarily one that you agree with.

This should be posted at the beginning of every Edge and Games TM thread. Some people just don't get it and end up making this forum look like Gamefaqs.

Why can an expansion pack not receive a high mark? Any piece of work (whether a game, film or essay) should be long enough to realise its intentions and no longer. If they achieved it within the hours of playtime, then it met its obligations ? if it didn't, then the complaint should be just that and not the number of hours playtime.

I have played a few RPGs that I felt were worth the time I invested in them, but for the most part I'd prefer they got to the point more quickly. There's an awful lot of bloat in an awful lot of games.

                                You mean...this isn't gamefaqs?
Think review threads will be banned soon, just the same old debate and views every month now, starting to seem somewhat pointless, also they annoy me every month.
