It's not proper analogue, so you still need to hold down the y button to make characters run. It is a big improvement over the frustrating d-pad though and it does feel like characters turn more precisely and quicker. I wouldn't say it's like playing a brand new game, but it's certainly a big improvement in my opinion.

I had a go on this whilst in Selfridges London. I couldn't say I was as impressed as I thought I would be. The 3D effect on Pilot Wings just seems to make everything shiny rather then add an amazing layer of depth. Maybe I didn't see it in the right light as it was extremely bright.

On the plus side I was playing Pilot wings which seems great fun! Fantastic controls with the analogue D pad too and the ability to turn the 3D off is one of the wisest moves for this hand held. The Augmented Reality cards have some potential.

Had a go at the Notts event today. 3D was cool but can't say I was overly I
impressed, the graphics all look very DS. The ARgames were cool, but no cooler than eyepet or eye of judgement

Managed to have a go on the 3DS today. My local gamestation had one in behind the counter. The screen is mind blowing. The depth of the screen really gives the illusion of 3D. Amazing how it's done without glasses.

You sure you weren't playing a DS?

Even the launch day titles are quite a step up over a DS title.

It is very odd how peoples opinions differ so wildly. Personally I thought the step up was immediately noticeable and very pleasing. The ds was getting very long in the tooth gfx wise and this upgrade shows that clearly.

Still, I do find it fascinating how people can come to completely different conclusions.

Ha ha, yeah, any casual observer can tell the visual leap 3DS is over the DS. Now, if you'd said PSP...

The closer this gets the more frustrating the lack of a key launch game becomes. If only because I haven't bothered with the recent installments so much I'm thinking Ridge Racer has to be first choice followed by Pilotwings Resort. The more I see of SSF4 the more off putting it is with its slower speed and budget backgrounds. Come on Zelda! Old it might be but there's an easy 30hrs gameplay from that

                        Remember though...

From what I've seen, some of the graphics aren't much better than the DS, but the Resi games and MGS are a big step up, seems like some devs are using gfx engines from the DS, and some from the Cube/Wii etc.

Also, the AR stuff looks much better than Eye of Judgement I'd say! It just wouldn't recognise come cards I found, plus it wasn't AR at all was it?

I just called the distributor here to see if there is anywhere I can call into for a demo on a unit, and the twat hung up on me! I'm going to take this to Iwata himself.

I just ordered the Hori hard case and dual screen protectors from PA.

I don't really believe in screen protectors as usually I don't like the idea of protecting my screen by sticking a huge sheet of cheap plastic onto it, however looking at my PSP it might be a good idea, especially if these sheets are anything like the iPhone ones (I really like the matt effect ones you see people use on the iPhone4).

I'm usually really **** at sticking stuff on like this and 9/10 always get a pube stuck behind the bloody thing. I think application should take place with me unboxing everything naked in the shower room, immediately after having a hot shower.

I'll give the AR cards a quick go but the tech in general reeks of flash in the pan gimmick that devs will soon abandon implementing
