No-one will pay 300-400 for it when home consoles can be had for less, especially children.
Their launch period window is also counting against them. A 'holiday' 2010 launch would have seen Nintendo laughing all the way to the bank but a 1st quarter 2011? GL with that.

I think it looks ugly from the side.
I can't help thinking that Nintendo has deliberately sprinkled some ugly dust on it, in the knowledge that it will sell like hot cakes regardless. Then version 2.0 will come along looking sleek as hell, and my wallet will get owned a second time.
I know this to be true, and yet I am powerless against it.

I'm so excited about the 3DS - Here's hoping for the OOT remake at / very close to release.

Glossy screen? I hope the backlight is good enough for outdoors.
Well I hope you're right, but with the amount of power it seems to have behind it I wouldn't be at all surprised if Nintendo pass on an overly inflated bill for it all, plus the VAT increase wouldn't exactly be helping matters much either.

It'll be tops £250 imo. Expensive certainly but given it's features and likely game catalogue people will lap it up, me included.
It's time of release is frankly irrelevant. Yes a pre Christmas release would have ignited sales even more but they simply couldn't have brought enough to market for then.
To suggest a 1st quarter release is going to hinder sales is simply barking. Nintendo will have absolutely no problems shifting this device.

The device's power will rival the PSP quite easily - how much did that launch for?

1st quarter will do them no harm, if anything it will do them better than a rushed Xmas 2010 release with 10 launch games. A 1st quarter release gives them a good ammount of time to get a fat ammount of games onto the system, all in time for a MASSIVE Xmas 2011.
6-9 months of 3DS word of mouth/showing off, I can imagine the Xmas madness now!

The insides of the 3ds are well known to be a couple of generations old at least. Nintendo are past masters at using old tech but tech which will give good bang for buck. This is a perfect example.

I'm just baffled as to why they're choosing March for it's launch window that's all. I've no doubt it will shift countless copies, the problem they face is that they will shift to those people who have what I like to call 'disposable income' something that pre-teen kiddies and their benefit abusing chav parents don't tend to have too much of.
