Like Mayhem, I too am still using my old DS Phat (im impressed it has stood the test of time actually) and have resisted upgrading for some time now, but this hardware upgrade for the DS is a big enough jump for me to take the plunge.

Same here, still owning only the original DS.

I'll most likely get a 3DS, but it depends when games like Mario Kart come out.

I'd be tempted by A US version of the machine but I'm worried about the 3ds version of the DSI ware shop. How do you currently pay for software downloaded through the DSI?

Has anyone had experience of buying points for a US DSi using a UK credit card? I'm wondering if the 3DS will require a user setup that exists outside of the console that would allow you to transfer the 3DS games from console to console which was mentioned as an option last year. If that's the case they may be restrictive about your region i guess.

No idea about US, but I've been buying JPN DSi and Wii points directly from the consoles fine with my UK credit card. I am in the same boats as Wils here - not sure if I want to go US or JPN at present with the 3DS. If it's just the store that's region locked I'll be strongly considering clamouring for a JPN unit at launch.

Do you end up paying more due to the exchange rate or is it the same price as UK Wii points?

I think the US version is the way for me to go, as i am there atleast once a year, so can pick up a few when im there.....

I'm sure I did track through the costs once but I cannot remember any exacts. Given the number of variables (bank's foreign currency policy, exchange rates etc) it's tough to give a definitive answer - but generally speaking, point-for-point yes it does work out more expensive. It's hardly exactly bank-breaking though, and with some types of cards you can find retailers on line that will mail you codes which usually works out a little cheaper.
