I played it for about an hour last night, again and agreed it has some very nice graphical touches - but its the same game that has been out on several platforms for years (now on a handheld, albeit tidyed up and much sharper looking). It was pretty low res to begin with though, so the improvement is going to be much more noticable.
Its nothing to do with the resolution, the graphics have been completely redone, they feature so much more detail. When inside peoples houses it doesnt even look like the same game, the graphics are so much better and theres so many more things in there than there is in the N64 version. I mean just look at the comparisons someone posted page back. The graphics havent just been touched up, they are DIFFERENT GRAPHICS.

And no I dont work for Nintendo. I'm just giving an honest opinion, its a dramatic improvment.

No, for some reason the newest DSIware is only being put up for DSI uses and not for people who have a 3DS, which is weird. Unless its there today?

I know the Airport game from last week still isnt on the 3DS store so I doubt the newest ones have gone up yet either.

For those who are tempted to pick a 3DS up, at the moment Bee.com is doing an offer for a 3DS system with Ocarina of Time for ?169.99

Sadly, it's an in store offer only going off their site.

Saw this on ONM's twitter feed: http://hmv.com/hmvweb/navigate.do?pP...T.mc_id=101915

10% off a 3DS game if you go in store and pick up the HMV Mii on Street Pass.

Not quite sure what the instore prices are like though, but might be interesting to someone maybe.

            Prices are generally too high.

... and I've been StreetPassing HMV Miis since before the damned 3DS came out, nargh. When did that offer start?

I agree that the 3DS hardware is seriously hobbled by being built around DS 'legacy' functions, the 4:3 resistive touch screen in particular. Wish that Nintendo had bitten the metaphorical and made a cleaner break from the DS, something with a larger single screen, PSP style. Less toy-like, in other words. (I say that as someone who likes the 3DS and buys every new Nintendo format!)

But thats not the discussion here its Zelda, and the fact is its quite a lazy port onto the system..
It's about as good a remake as possible. Booted up the original Ocarina of Time yesterday, on the GameCube disc, and they are incomparable. Remake it may be, but this is a top-to-bottom, no expense spared remake. Personally, I'm not going to be pleased if the 3DS ends up getting buried in remakes in the longer term, but OoT is a class game worth remaking. Not everyone's played the original either; my girlfriend didn't even start playing videogames until 2007, and I have a younger relative playing the remake who wasn't even born in 1998.

It isn't enough of an improvement to warrant a remake though. What i think would be Enough but at the same time realistic would be 1080p, 60fps Wii U Zelda tech demo quality visuals. If they had done that for the Wii u i would of bought the machine for it regardless of the price or other games coming out for it. I only hope they decide to do that with LTTP.

I guess it depends what you're looking for. Being able to play it on the toilet, looking this good and in glasses-free 3D trumps 1080p 60fps for me easily.

Not enough of an improvement? Really? I think you need to see the two side by side. If you already have then you need to see an optician. It's a massive improvement over the original. I'd guess it's quadruple the resolution, new textures for everything, additional details, some completely redesigned environment elements, more polygons used, excellent use of the additional screen, amazing 3d. I can't think of a remake that's more deserving or as improved as this is.

Some of us just don't have any interest in remakes at all, and would prefer them to spend the devtime on new experiences.

I don't mind it, it's a little cheeky for rrp it at ?40 given Sony is capable of a reduced budget for collections but I think it's a bit much to disagree with it as a basic concept. Had the dev team been working on a new Zelda it wouldn't have been ready for now so we'd only be one game down and even if it looked like the WiiU Zelda it'd still just be visually better and therefore no more worthy of a project. Hell, even if it was a new Zelda, some would still complain as usual that it's too samey

Other than price it's still clearly a worthy update and there's certainly no arguement against the idea of such remakes as long as they're done right and don't compromise the original. It's hardly worth arguing against the idea of concerns against the system relying on them as this and Starfox are the only one's due. It's no different to when Mario 64DS came out, it's merely padding out an otherwise empty launch year, certainly preferable to the barren 12 months most other formats endure.

Not being at all interested in any remakes is a totally valid point of view. But, it's not like Nintendo are the bad guys here. We can axpect Halo, MGS, Ico and SOTC, Splinter Cell and Silent Hill HD remakes shortly. We've already had God of War, Tomb raider and Prince of Persia (I'm sure I've missed some). OOT is, arguably, the most deserving of all of them as it's so old and so revered.

                            *raises hand*

It's sad, and a part of me screams that I'm wrong, wrong, wrong for thinking this but, even now, I'd rather Majora's Mask got the same 3DS treatment than get the announcement that we're getting a new 3DS game that builds on Spirit Tracks and Phantom Hourglass. I'll take the old over the risk of a new one going crappy. I'm a bad person. I feel shame. But I'm still wishing that.

To be fair, the Zelda franchise is long long overdue a refresh. The OOT format was definately feeling long in the tooth by TP

Phantom Hourglass was a worthy, if flawed try at doing this but even that was feeling stale by the end of spirit tracks.

It's one of the things that has me wary of Skyward Sword. The focus on open world dungeons and smart use of the Wiimote plus could breathe new life into it.

Not saying the Zelda games aren't fine games in their own right but there's only so many times getting the boomerang can be interesting, even if they do very slight twists to how you use them.

But then you end up with Fable:The Journey.
