Japan's spoiled, it's getting a slick white version that the other two regions are not...if I find one, I'll pick a white unit up: just in time for Senran Kagura Burst, boobs on large 3D screen, mhm-mhmmmm.

No AC adaptor? Are they kidding?

And I thought the lack of memory card bundled with the Vita was bad.

They are seriously considering launching a handheld with no charging solution included?

White would have been my first choice too. Downer that's jap exclusive for now. Eu gets silver one as exclusive. Might pick that one if I can see some decent photos of it. I notice they have dropped the black surround on the 3d screen. I thought Nintendo said that was essential to making the 3d easy on the eyes. Maybe bigger screen negates the need for it now

So only a year on they are releasing a bigger and better machine at a hugely lower price than I paid for my original one which was slashed in price within 6 months. Thanks Nintendo, great job.

              Well bugger me sidewards.

I know the lack of second analogue will annoy some again but generally there isn't one area that it doesn't improve on. Main bonus will be the battery life. US price is $199 which I'm guessing would suggest a UK rrp of around ?150, a little higher than the standard 3DS.

Maybe they're hoping gullible people will just buy a new one after the initial shop-charge runs out?

Anyway, is this region free yet?

A pox on anyone who buys a region locked handheld.

If this has screens that are 90% bigger does that mean that already released games are going to be locked into their original ratios or will it scale up and therefore not look/respond as good as they weren't designed for that size screen/touchpad?

People really shouldn't feel hard done by when a company releases a different model of a machine. It happens all the time in other industries - many manufacturers release two or three iterations of a TV product line per year, for example. If it doesn't result in the original machine becoming obsolete, then there's no real problem. I don't intend to 'upgrade', and I also don't regret buying mine when I did, I've got plenty of game time out of the thing.

The lack of second analogue slidepad is bizarre, but probably emphasises that it will not become mandatory. I must say, I haven't really felt the need to invest in a Circle Pad Pro while playing Resident Evil Revelations or Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance, it would appear that it isn't quite the necessity that many people feel, outside of FPS games. Nintendo better rethink the AC adaptor though - they claim that original 3DS adaptors will work, but I suspect that most people who buy this won't be people 'upgrading'.

I think we're long past the point where a second analogue stick is a worthwhile addition. They might well in time do another version which includes one like a Nintendo 3DS XL Pro or something for more core gamers but in any generation you're only as good as your base model and as there's 15m+ units out there without one developers will never properly cater for the second analogue as shown by the lack of 3DS software which would benefit from having it. Hell, devs are slow to put out games that use it properly like FPS's on the Vita so the one missing here isn't a major ommission. Plus, this will help curb any more redesign chatter as we ain't gonna get another till 2014 at the earliest. Which it didn't look so cheap though.

I just don't understand why they didn't show this at E3, there is no real reason why that I can see ... It makes you wonder what else they are holding back on.

It's almost like compnaies these days don't actually want to show things at E3 on purpose just to piss people off.

I'm 99% sure it was so I went ahead with buying that US Purple 3DS. Thanks Nintendo.

Agree with the comment about other industries releasing multiple iterations per year. If you want to see a real shafting of buyers look at the android tablet market. Acer released their Tegra 3 quad core A510 tablet last month in the UK. It has a 1280 by 800 screen. Next month they are releasing an upgraded version called the A700 which is identical but has a 1080p screen. It's also cheaper than the old model. Imagine how buyers of the A510 feel right now. Asus are doing the same with their transformer prime tab which is only 6 months old and was launched with defective GPS onboard. They gave their buyers a solution of an external GPS unit. Nintendo refreshing 3DS after 18 months? 18 month is like 18 years in today's tech world

Whats the chances in 18 months that Ninty makes a 3DS V3, with 2 analogue sticks, i'd say about 80%, and more money for something that should have been day one, Ninty should really try selling ice to eskimos.

Saw one of these the other day. Mighty fine colour, I really want one.
