As for third party support, it just depends what kind of games you like. Xbox is better for realistic PC-like Western stuff, but GameCube's better for interesting Japanese games.

At the end of the day, multiformat houses like Eidos, Sega Sports, and Acclaim all dropped Gamecube support his year. Namco, Square-Enix, Konami and Capcom all increased support this year. I know who I'd rather have on board.

It's hardly as clear cut as Peter would like to think.

I wonder what Peter willdo next when Microsoft pull the plug on the whole thing in 2008 due to it never making any sort of profit or having anything like the installed units they need?

I suppose he could go work for Infinium Labs. After all of his experience pimping things like the Dreamcast's userbase and the Xbox's success, he'll be used to trying to sell things that don't exist.

I don't know about that actually. Most of my Xbox games are Japanese when I think about it. JSRF, SB, Phantom Crash, PDO and some others. 8)

I think the content line-up, the pricing strategy, the marketing strategy that we've undertook
              Jesus, learn some grammar.

Without getting too much into tired console war arguments, I would point out that this Christmas is shaping up to be a particularly crap one across all formats. It must be the worst since the transitional year 2000, when the PS2 launched with sod all and the N64 gave its last gasp. Given as I refuse to buy another Mario Kart game until they make the singleplayer at least as good as Diddy Kong Racing's, and Harvest Moon US has been pushed back to next year, I'm not sure I'll actually be buying a single game for the rest of the year.

It is pretty bad, you're right.

                The delays killed it.

But 2004 is going to be awesome. Really great.

                So many sequels though ...

"Unless you can clearly differentiate, or you're willing to spend billions of dollars in losses"

Says it all for me. Their strategy is to spend bajillions of dollars and buy success, rather than differentiate and innovate.

Exactly. Until MS actually turns a profit on Xbox, they have no rights to tell Nintendo how to run it's business.

I really don't want to write two lists comparing Nintendo's/Microsoft's Xmas lineup, but who has the best software? Nintendo...and by a long, long way.
Yeah and which software do you think is going to sell?

Among all the bull**** Moore does make a couple of valid points; Nintendo is not doing very well and are selling less Gamecubes than expected, they are third place in the UK and the line up they have shown so far is pretty poor (although we all know how secretive ninty are, they are keeping their big guns quiet for now).

The thing we have to remember is that Microsoft is an american company and its marketing is going to be big, brash and in your face.

Neither. Xbox software sales are almost as pathetic as GameCube. The difference is that no-one wants to jump the Xbox ship in case Microsoft pull off the impossible and overthrow Sony next time out. No-one wants to be left in the cold during this time of transition into the next generation.

KotoR is selling well at the moment. And I can see others that could sell well over christmas (counter-strike, colin mcrae 4, rainbow six 3 ect).

                            Err, why not?

You do realise that Microsoft had to actually run a business to get where they are now? With all this buggerload of money too.

If anything, everyone should bow down to MS. Sony make only 10% of the profit that Microsoft do (in a year), and that's counting the losses on the Xbox. So I think that's quite decent.

Except the Xbox division has bugger all to do with the bunch that shovel out Windows and Office.

                              You can't compare the two.

I can't see any of those games outselling Mario Kart or Rogue Squadron 3. I don't know about America, but I'm pretty sure Metroid Prime and Zelda have outsold all the Xbox games this year in Europe.

Anyway, this is a pointless debate. I personally think exclusives sell better on GameCube, but multiformats do better on Xbox. Look at how much better Sega's games have done on it for instance.
