Unless the Slim comes with a 5 year warranty for ANY failures, no chance. I am fed up with Microsoft's hardware record in my own house, never mind anyone elses!

I basically refuse to buy another console because I don't want to give Microsoft an installed-base boost because they couldn't be bothered to build a console that lasts. The only thing running against that at the moment is that I would like an HDMI connection for a monitor I'm thinking of investing in for my computer.

If my current (fifth) machine lasts as long as the last one then I will have received my legal entitlement of six years, at which point I would feel comfortable buying a new one.

The results of my (unscientific) survey are relevant here:

      57% of 360 consoles were a second, paid-for machine.

I would only replace if mine died, but even then after the ranting I gave to microsoft, I expect they would just replace it.

Voted option two but reliability is the key factor. I'd buy PAL and JAP units in a shot if they were rock solid as I'm dreading the inevitable day in the future when my 360 library becomes off-limits due to my console dying.

Shouldn't MS make a bigger console to prevent overheating and melting parts?

If the 360 has taught us anything, it's that we should probably wait a while to see exactly how reliable it is. The same applies wo the slim.

I don't really care for cosmetics, it could be Wii size and I would only buy it if this 360 went belly up.
Now on my 2nd 360, 1st 360 lasted for 2 years then discs wouldn't read, current one is still going strong with 2 years+ on the clock. I do consider myself lucky as I know a few RROD victims personally, it is not nice at all.

Only if it's quieter. Mine is whining and rattling so much it sounds like an asthmatic dog going off a cliff in a tractor.

I've brought revisions of consoles for some time. Off the top of my head the PSone, PS2, Game Boy, Game Boy Advance and DS have all had major hardware modifications and I've brought the new versions after they came out.

I've liked the improvements the Elite made to the standard Xbox 360 model, so if there's enough change and I'm able to afford one, I'll trade my Elite for a Slim 360.

My current elite is on its knees, the disk drive has stopped loading games so i have to install all my games...which also fails to read the disks so it can take a number of attempts...so id be quite tempted to get a slim just to get rid of this heap.

More important to me than the noise or size, would be whether the slim turned out to be some crippled noob version that didn't run all software or had features missing, like the revised PlayStations.

I definately wouldn't spend money on a replacement 360 solely because it's slimmer. But if my 360 red-ringed and a slim version was available for the same price as a fatty then, yeah, I'd switch.

I selected "only if it's quiet" but truth be told there'd have to be some awe inspiring graphical and gameplay juggernaut due out to really convince me.

Maybe if they announce Gears of...oh hang on...damn it!!

                              That needed a picture.

if they are silent, I will buy. Mine wakes the house up...

That's the best a quick Google will find and I'm too poor at Photoshop to edit.

Anyone care to have a go?!
