Surprised at Mario Galaxy 2 getting a 10 but then i'm not surprised as it's Edge. Until i've played it i simply fail to see how it can get top marks if it's more of the same.

From the review:
"The desire to experiment is this astonishing game's most dangerous achievement... the final levels switch from perfecting the 3D platformer to deconstructing it."
"This isn't a game that redefines the genre: this is one that rolls it up and locks it away... Galazy 2 offers... a new sense of wonder at where we'll go next."

Sounds like typical babble from edge reviewers, getting all pretentious... "locking away" suff dosent sound like a positive thing to me.
I guess what the reviewer meant to say was that it gets so inventive that it makes you very dizzy, which is perhapse why that section from the review purveys so much confusion.Last edited by rmoxon; 20-05-2010, 15:15.

The impression I got from the review is that SMG2 takes the ideas from the first game and just runs with them further than anyone could imagine. It's clear that they think it messes around the platformer concept to the point where it 'deconstructs it' (like say David Lynch does with film).
The lock it away point just means that no-one will beat this for many years (i.e. Nintendo have 'locked away' the best platformer trophy - if one were to exist).

I thought "locked away" meant it has broken out of the confines of the genre to the point where questions of classifications become irrelevant. That is has risen above the mere mortality of videogame-dom.Last edited by egparadigm; 20-05-2010, 15:43.

If anything those quotes have made me less likely to buy the game and I can't work out why.
