I agree that constant previews are a bit annoying, but actually this article makes perfect sense. All the GotD winners are receiving a special article ? they've done HL2 and Resi 4 already.

I have no idea i was just expecting them to make lots of comparason to the first and use the old not as groundbreaking excuse to drop it a point or two. Guess i was wrong.

Ive not read much about SMG2, but for it to achieve anotehr 10, must mean that the game is doing something even more amazing than before......... Look forward to finding out what!

Some decent scores this month IMO.

Ah, too much joy in this issue

            SMG2 + LBP2 = the mother lode

Could anyone be as kind to tell me how much Depth the LBP2 feature has?

My EDGE Subsciption was cancelled a while ago, although I've bought it nearly every month this year. (I did get annoyed at the pathetic piece of journilism on Megaman 10 tho)

              Thanks.

Lost Planet 2 got a 6. Well if it's owt like the first that could be too high as LP1 was absolute gash.

Surprised at Mario Galaxy 2 getting a 10 but then i'm not surprised as it's Edge. Until i've played it i simply fail to see how it can get top marks if it's more of the same.

Super Mario Galaxy's only fault was that it eventualy ended... so if the second game is more of the same it deffinitley deserves a 10. Having said that from what ive seen theres quite alot of new stuff in it anyway.

Thats my point. It may be just as good as the first but i just don't think you can justify a 10 if it's just a carbon copy in different locations/enviroments. The first was great tho, so i suppose the reviewer has scored it as a gaming experience regardless of its familiarity to the first.

                    I'll be buying it anyway

                      From the review:

"The desire to experiment is this astonishing game's most dangerous achievement... the final levels switch from perfecting the 3D platformer to deconstructing it."

"This isn't a game that redefines the genre: this is one that rolls it up and locks it away... Galazy 2 offers... a new sense of wonder at where we'll go next."

Sounds like typical babble from edge reviewers, getting all pretentious... "locking away" suff dosent sound like a positive thing to me.

I guess what the reviewer meant to say was that it gets so inventive that it makes you very dizzy, which is perhapse why that section from the review purveys so much confusion.

I think by that he means 'noone else should bother trying to do a game in this genre, casue this is as good as it can ever be'.

The impression I got from the review is that SMG2 takes the ideas from the first game and just runs with them further than anyone could imagine. It's clear that they think it messes around the platformer concept to the point where it 'deconstructs it' (like say David Lynch does with film).

The lock it away point just means that no-one will beat this for many years (i.e. Nintendo have 'locked away' the best platformer trophy - if one were to exist).

I thought "locked away" meant it has broken out of the confines of the genre to the point where questions of classifications become irrelevant. That is has risen above the mere mortality of videogame-dom.

That's how it reads to me as well.

If anything those quotes have made me less likely to buy the game and I can't work out why.
