First two machines I had scratched the buggery out of any discs placed in them. Third developed a problem reading discs, fourth RRODed.

My launch console died (RROD). Bought an Elite a few months ago and it's still running okay, although I'm not using it much.

Got my first 360 in April 2008 and used it for a year with no problems.

Bought a Japanese Arcade later that year, no issues yet.

Got a spare PAL Arcade from GAME when they were on offer at £99 and that has been used as my primary system for just over a year now. No issues yet.

        Touch wood!

Ok, launch US 20gb system still going strong...but sounds like a helicopter taking off, but, US launch Elite running fine and slightly quieter, US launch Super Elite runs like a dream and whisper quiet....

...having said that, I've had 2 bloody US launch 60gb PS3 systems go all yellow light of death on me within a month of one another...urgh!

I have a launch Premium and launch Elite, the hard drive looked as if it may be a problem on the Premium but other than both consoles have been fine. The Elite is my main console and gets a good amount of use.

Still on my second but the fear of RRoD pretty much killed my 360 playing so I haven't given this one much of a chance to die.

I have a launch day Elite and it's fine. I'd be happy with this but it sounds like there's a helicopter in the room when it's on. I'd like for it to RRoD so I could get a quieter replacement but the three year warranty will run out in August and it doesn't look like it's going to break before then. Guess I never use it enough.

There is no such thing. Stick with what you have.

Depending on what fans you have, you can replace them for quieter fans. Mine is loads quieter than the original fans, now I have replaced them. It's still not actually quiet, but in comparison, it's worth doing.

My first 360 was a launch JPN model that I bought second hand - no surprises when that died after I put it through a year or so's worth of pretty intense usage. It was brought back from the brink by Mr Pavey but had another E74 error a month or so afterwards.

Now rocking PAL elite and JPN arcade Jaspers - possibly a US machine of some sort soon, too. Not had any issues with the current lineup.

I think if mine died again I'd probably get custom fans and anything else that would help as although mine is much better than my previous 360s it's still not what I'd call quiet.

It's not ideal due to the size & cost but in the past I've consider going for something along the lines of the Lian Li replacement case. Hopefully it's not something I'll need to consider again though.

Do you have a link to more information on this? I've never tinkered with the insides of a console before so I wouldn't actually do it, but it would be interesting to see.

I've got a 2007 UK Elite and have had, to date, no issues with it. This is obviously the cue for it to burst into flames this evening and burn my house to the ground. Or RROD at least.

I always hang on to all of my consoles and games etc and have never had a single one fail on me. Even though I've had no problems with my 360 so far, I somehow can't see it lasting as long as my Megadrives, Saturn, PS1 etc

My UK launch model had the RROD a few years back but has been fine since it was repaired. It is getting quite noisy though and that is worrying considering I play everything off the HDD.
My Asian 360 is an original model that I bought second hand and hasn't experienced the dreaded RROD yet. The system is a lot quieter than it's UK counterpart. Maybe NXE and HDD installs have been more beneficial to the health of older systems than MS let on.
