    It looks horrible, it shares the same name but it only looks similar in terms of a few level design points. It seems they've changed the entire feel of the game which is definitely not a good thing, it seems more current than what Goldeneye does today and i'm concerned it'll ruin what magic goldeneye had/has.

    It's always going to be a hard sell for me but if couldn't do what Rare did to Perfect Dark then don't do anything at all. Daniel Craig? In Goldeneye? This is going to be ****.

      To me it looked like a full proper remake. I could identify most areas shown in that trailer from the original. I'm genuinely excited about it now.

      Oddjob = banned though

        Loving the look of that. Despite Daniel Craig being in it now it still made me nostalgic. All over it!

          The new one showed an authentic full sized Oddjob

          Rare got oddjob and nicnac confused, Oddjob was 5"8" in the film, NicNac was the midget.

            The news today that a new version of Nintendo 64 classic GoldenEye 007 was met with cheers at today's Nintendo E3 press conference. I played the game. It's good but it's not the remake you may have thought it was.

            Here's some bullet points.

            * New levels (Can't use exact original levels, both single and multiplayer)
            * Regenerating health!!!!
            * New Story about some bank crisis.
            * Multiplayer has a perk system.

            All the signs of what I was worried about. Taking out what made Goldeneye 64 so magical and sticking in a modern piece of ****.

            And i'm going to make a bold statement and say that the music definitely won't be the same.

              As long as it's along the same lines I'll be fine with a 'spiritual successor'. They must be able to use a lot of similar aspects as long as they're not identical as in the end it's a film tie in. It's still far from what EA did with Rogue Agent

                    Interesting preview regarding the changes made to the levels (in this case the opener).

                    Sounds well done, and it's better that it's not identical.

                      I have this problem with really wanting to hate this as its just Goldeneye reskinned on the bloody Wii (well with a few extra levels) but it looks great.

                        Played it today, and in my opinion they've ruined the memory of the original, I'm trying to be reserved and objective here but it was really ****, as the guy was doing his pitch he was all "you can decide wether you play stealth or guns blazing" which was a blatant lie, the opening level for example, Dam, you start behind two guards, here you can stealth or shoot if you like, then you can sneak to the guard tower and also stealth them, once you do that however that's it, a patrol comes from round the corner where you started and you're forced into an open firefight, then you (again no choice in the matter) hijack a truck and go in that truck shooting out the window at all the other trucks and people in an on-the-rails set peice that might as well be a cut scene which ends at the dam itself, so you bypass everything you did in the original leading upto that point - walking through the tunnels, hiding behind that truck as it passed through the double gates and through the compound where you could actually stealth kill everyone if you wanted if i remember right! It just all feels wrong.

                        I appreciate they might not be able to exactly copy the original, but I seriously wonder if they even bothered putting this in front of anyone who played and loved the original to focus test it, as to me they've just made a bland FPS with the same name and semi-familiar levels, there is no feeling of quality or atmosphere that the original had at it's time, the same applies to the multiplayer, we were playing on Archives, which shared the name and thats it. The controls too are wrong (in fairness we all had a pre-set layout, maybe there was customisation? i dunno), they were fare too loose and disconnected imo, and there was no diagnol running like in the original which gave you a tactical edge when used properly, just a run button which doesn't seem right, oh and there was no music during gameplay.

                        /rant

                        maybe some other people enjoyed it, but many of the people i spoke to after felt the same

                          I'm still quietly optimistic of enjoying this. I've set out to take it as a game reimagining of the film rather than of Rare's title as, though enjoyable, Perfect Darks rerelease showed that Goldeneye can't be remade into a modern FPS without changing extensively anyway so hoping for such a title is only opening a door to disappointment. To give Activision some small leeway as well, they're stuck on ignoring Rare's title and basing it purely on the film also because Rare's version was so accurate to the film that the levels mirrored the appearance and layout of the sets which forces more changes. Taking it as a solo Bond game like Blood Stone is seems the right way. Still, releasing this and Blood Stone the same day as GT5 and 4 days before COD seems silly.

                            I thought it was alright. I liked the way they've updated certain elements of the game but there were still enough recognisable bits to give me the shivers.

                            I'll be buyng the limited pack with the gold controller for sure!

                              Hmm... It feels like you might be comparing it too closely to the original, booth83. I personally don't mind if the diagonal running is not replicated, although it would be good to have the stealth option. Not sure really how much stealth could be used in the original – I usually found it could be used occasionally, but certainly not throughout.

                              I really hope this game turns out well. It's exactly what I would have done with a remake – that is to say, not be too beholden to the original. Keep what's good, yes, but also improve, extend and re-imagine.

                                Dezm0nd is correct this is not a remake, more a sequel with the same name. Purely done as a marketing stunt, which will seriously backfire at some point.

                                I'm tempted to give it a miss on those grounds alone but I'll wait till I get a chance to play Dead Space on Wii and see what Eurocom did with that.
