Saw the new Kong Emerges Trailer earlier. For the first time I'm interested with DKC: Returns.

That looks immense, day one purchase for me. If that's just a snippet of the game imagine what the rest of it's like, can't wait.

The joystiq preview i was reading on the way to work this morning only had one bad thing to say in the 2 hour preview play that they got. It was not long enough to even scratch the surface of the content as the game offers a real platforming challenge.

Those vids look supurb, Retro look set to offer another gaming design masterclass.

I love my wii, honestly... It's had many of my favourite games in recent times on it, including Little King Story (love, love, love this), Galaxy (1+2), Mario Kart Wii, Mario Bros, Metroid Corruption, Silent Hill, Lost Winds, Wii Sports, Boy and his Blob, Fragile, Demon Blades, No More Heroes 2, Mad World, House of the Dead: Overkill etc etc...

BUT, it has failed to spark my interest of late. I feel like I've experienced all it's had to offer, and that's not a bad thing as such because i wouldn't trade those gaming experiences for anything, but rather a reflective sigh...

Donkey Kong, however... Donkey Kong is the game that has me really excited about grabbing my Wii-Remote again and cherishing that magical Rare / Nintendo love and passion no one else can quite perfect. I really, truly cannot wait for DK - I adored the snes masterpiece, and this looks to set those senses on fire once again. Looks immense... and well and truly needed! This will perfectly set the scene for those other Wii classics that are just around the corner. Zelda, Kirby, Tales and Last Story i'm looking at you...

Glad that the previews suggest that it isn't going to be a walk in the park - the Kotaku feedback indicated 50 deaths in one sitting.

It looks absolutely amazing, the only thing I'm anxious to find out if the OST can match the godly feats of DKC1&2. Although I have read that a remix of Aquatic Ambience is to be included so that's a good start!

Even though I love the original tunes from the early DK Country games, it seems pretty weak to simply rehash them for this new release. Almost shameful considering the creator (Rare) is nowhere near this project.

From what i have seen from Rare since they were bought by MS i am glad they are not. I understand the history, but things have moved on and the Rare that almost single handed made the N64 the console it was is long gone.

Retro are doing a fine job filling their boots imo.

As for the music it would not be DK Country without those tunes that we know and love

70 levels as well! Cannot wait.

Gonna play the original trilogy this weekend in anticipation.

sadly, I think rare exist in name only today. much if not all of the original staff have left by now

Not to derail the thread completely; but I think Rare is still pretty decent. The games they put out are of average to high quality. The only problem is that the times have changed. People don't want cute adventure games that require exploration. They would rather have on rails shooters with a generic multiplayer add-on (CoD, Moh, BadComp2, Killzone2 etc). I personally adore almost all of Rares recent games. Kameo, Viva Pinata and the latest Banjo are all among my top gaming experiences this generation. Sadly they are not as approachable as todays games are, in a time when audiences expect most of the game to be played by itself, or at least have a nice level select screen, and bread crombs to follow in each stage. Too bad sales of said games haven't been as good as they deserve, degrading Rare to the Kinect Shovelware Division

Interested in this but won't buy until I know there is no stupid enforced waggle or point to jump mechanism, if it's a pure button only DK I'm in

You press a button to jump, but waggle to break open barrels as I remember. No need to point wiimote at screen on the sections I played!

I heard you need to shake the remote to start a roll. Rolling was as we all know a crucial element in the first games, getting all of those Kong coins by rolling of cliffs and jumping mid air.

Nah I totally disagree with that. You've only got to look at Viva Pinata and Nuts and Bolts to know that the old Rare is alive and well. There is still lots of the old N64 guard as well (and before that). It's a myth that all the talent left Rare. You've only got to look at Free Radical to realise that.
