No, I'm with you on that, FSW. Like most Rare games of that era, I think the looks won people over. Not saying DKC isn't fun if you get into it but I think it's a poor cousin to many other platformers.
And the new one doesn't seem to exactly be reaching for new heights. It looks archaic and certainly visually doesn't pick up the momentum that was there before 3D became all the rage. I'm all for a resurgance in 2D platformers but it seems to me that it's more a case that Nintendo is living in the past and thinks they can churn these out. NSMB was certainly enjoyable (well, I thought so) but I didn't feel the love there at all.
That Rayman one is looking really nice though. When graphics started to get that much better and we got the likes of Kao Flying Squadron 2, I always felt there was so much potential in 2D that never got realised because everyone went all Ridge Racer. Maybe that potential will now finally be realised. Would be nice.
