No, I'm with you on that, FSW. Like most Rare games of that era, I think the looks won people over. Not saying DKC isn't fun if you get into it but I think it's a poor cousin to many other platformers.

And the new one doesn't seem to exactly be reaching for new heights. It looks archaic and certainly visually doesn't pick up the momentum that was there before 3D became all the rage. I'm all for a resurgance in 2D platformers but it seems to me that it's more a case that Nintendo is living in the past and thinks they can churn these out. NSMB was certainly enjoyable (well, I thought so) but I didn't feel the love there at all.

That Rayman one is looking really nice though. When graphics started to get that much better and we got the likes of Kao Flying Squadron 2, I always felt there was so much potential in 2D that never got realised because everyone went all Ridge Racer. Maybe that potential will now finally be realised. Would be nice.

Based on the one minute trailer?

If people want them (like 15 million NSMB sold seems to indicate), Nintendo makes them. Everybody wins. How's that "living in the past"?

Also, they sure are "churning" them out with NSMB out now and DKC & Kirby in the making.

Yes. Just like everyone elses opinion on it.

        Two NSMBs. Two's company, three's a crowd and four's a churn.

Two NSMB games, one in 2006 and the other in 2009? And these are coming out in 2010 or 2011 probably?

So that's four different games on two platforms coming out in 5-6 year period. Yeah, they sure are really "churning" it. Damn those greedy corporate bastards! What's next, New Yoshi's Island? How dare they!

I'm beginning to think you're being sarcastic.

DKC and Kirby are also in the context of a show that included Goldeneye, a Zelda, a Mario Party (minus Mario) and the news of Zelda OoT and Starfox64 on 3DS. I'm standing by 'living in the past' and the use of the term 'churn'.

Now I'm not even convinced you want an actual answer to that question. I'm nervous, to be honest. I don't think I could handle a "shock as tired gamer expects something fresh!" reply.

I gave up trying to make that point in the 3DS threads. Some gamers will want to play identikit titles in 50 years time

Donkey Kong Country is an awesome game, one of my favourite platforming games of all time. Going by what I played, Donkey Kong Country Returns is basically the original formula updated for the Wii but, hey, it is still one highly enjoyable game and that is all that matters at the end of the day.....well, for me anyway.

All those games look good but Dust (which I'd not heard of before) looks especially impressive. The animation in particular looks far superior to the other games shown in this thread.

Yeah, that Dust game looks pretty spectacular. It's beautiful.

It's kinda of impressive to see where Dust has come from, and has now gotten to!

                              Thought of one more:

                              Blade Kitten by Krome Studios

So yeah, there's a bunch of these coming out soon. Good stuff
