Thinking about it, what's kind of ironic is that all those multimedia features MS are trying to cram in there, within a few years they'll be done in the TV itself - in many cases they already are. At which point the focus will need to get back to being a dedicated games console.

Besides, with the noise my 360 makes, there's no way I could consider using it as a home media center

Well it would seem the update has made my Xbox more noisy. As I said earlier it made a hellish noise when updating, and now my Xbox's fans whir like a chainsaw for the first 5 mins after I put it on. On top of that the Xbox now flashes (like it's on power saving download) for a few mins after I put it off. To conclude, not only do I have a less functional dash board but now a noisier Xbox and one that takes longer to shut down. Utter ****.

The shutdown lag is for the Cloud syncing, whether you've activated it or not. I think my 360 is noisier too, come to think of it...

The cloud. What a joke. It's just the same crap that we've had since the internet started. A server somewhere where you put all your stuff. I'm never going to use that. Why would I want to? It's not as if saves take up **** loads of space so I just use the harddrive and if I want to take my saves to a friends house (never have wanted to do that in 25 years of gaming) then I can just save my latest game to a USB stick and take that. Don't need to be online and I know my data is safe.

YEs, teh cl0ud! The latest buzz. The novelty wore off on me back in 1997 when I started using my web space to access any work from home that wouldn't fit on a 1.44 floppy.

Like you say Yakumo, even on my piece-of-**** insult 4GB HDD I never run out of space for saving games.

Any way to turn that ****e off? I don't like the sound of shutdown lag and a noisier console. I've been playing offline the past few days to avoid the Skyrim 1.2 update which puts the game up the f**k even further, so I can't check the new dash for myself yet. It doesn't sound good anyway, I think I'll stay offline for the time being.

I've noticed the delay in shutdown but I haven't noticed an increase in noise I'm using a 250gb slim may be that's the reason

I think you have to actually turn it on.

                  There's an "appear offline" option.

The shutdown lag also happens when the machine decides it needs to keep running the fans for a bit to drop the temp before cutting power fully, mine did it from time to time before the update.

You'd move the saves first before cancelling, which you can do. My point was you don't want to go putting the none copy/moveable saves on the cloud partition because then you're stuffed. I went through my saves and copied the ones I wanted to backup to the Cloud, only to find half of them wouldn't move at all; every Forza, Mass Effect 1 & 2, Dragon Age, Fable - none allow them to be copied. Why? What's the point in stopping that?

But how do you know they prevent it until you go and try to copy/move them? I didn't realise so many of them stopped you from backing them up. Can they be loaded up in-game and saved elsewhere? If so then it's even more pointless.

God knows- the unmovable save thing really is daft.

I feel pretty meh about the dash update really. Looks alright, not keen on adverts though. I don't understand people moaning about 'social' aspects of Live though, which have been part of it since day one. Don't like people inviting you to games? Make yourself unavailable. Better yet, kill your friends list. Why have any friends in the first place if you don't want any? Bizarre.

So this Cloud storage is only available if you are a Gold member? I don't care about storing save games in the cloud - all I want is to be able to log on to both my xboxes with the same account without having to wait 10 mins to download my damn profile each time. I hope I'll be able to.

I have noticed something very odd about all these 'social' aspects, not just on the Xbox, it seems the more and more its pushed upon us the less intrested people seem to be. I have pretty much given up with all 'social' sites and one of the reason is there are too many of them and they are not really unified. I know there are autoposting services but I find them a little redundant if I am not making the effort it may as well all be automated.

The point is when LIVE first came to the Xbox and when the Xbox 360 was released I used to see quite a few friends on there who I regularly played with and even used a headset to communicate. As time has gone on and mostly because of the Xbox Live freaks I was less intrested in using the headset or even attempting to make new friends.

The new 'social' aspects started rolling out on Xbox maybe about a year or two ago and I have noticed a distinct drop in friends online and even people just dropping me a message about a game etc. I really think they have screwed up, they want everyone to use Kinect and be Social and its pushing a lot of people away fom the console or even doing what they want them to do 'in theory' which is communicate.
