Ah well, it's only two weeks!

Me either - but I'm taking that as a good thing... They are using this to test certain ISP/router configs so by us not being picked there are others with similar configs doing the testing for us. SO, come 19th, it should all work well for our hardware!

I wish Microsoft would just make some kind of open beta. Let anyone who wants it download it from the website and leave it until the 19th to push it out over Live. Supposedly once the base dashboard is installed it has to download a load of extra stuff like the Avatar creation software - I've heard that's like 120MB - so there are bound to be bandwidth issues. Why not get all the hardcore people who will need to have it immediately and so will batter Live as soon as it's available on the 19th download it now and get them out of the way?

Since hiding the Welcome Channel My Xbox has been the default Channel the 360 goes to when I boot it up, that was until today and now it defaults to Spotlight and this has the square bullet to the left of it which My Xbox had when that used to be the default.

How do I change this back to My Xbox? I couldn't find a way of doing it before and have no idea why it has now changed to a different Channel.

I've noticed the NXE has defaulted to the Spotlight Channel for all profiles on my console. Can this be changed, I want My Xbox as the default Channel again?

the beta install took about 2 minutes, pretty fast.

the avatar creation thing ... it's a bit fruity to put it mildly.

The dash itself is fast and pretty decent, i'm actually surprised how much slicker it is

I love that I can now play a game for a long while without having my disc drive crap out and lose my progress (30k gold of tedious Fable 2 woodcutting was the last time)

I really need to pick up a new console (but after the 19th)

My disc drive seems to be getting noisier, hopefully it can hold out until after the new dashboard comes out!

They will do after a while, but don't expect to walk into a shop on the 20th and have the NXE on it

Eurogamer have done a "Disc vs Install" comparison. Makes interesting reading, not a huge difference in load times infact Halo 3 loads slower via the install method

Saying that though their was a video up of GTAIV and it showed a huge improvement much more than Eurogamer made out.

That was a pretty good read. There is a definite improvement on the inital load of most titles by the looks of things.

The Halo 3 thing is pretty funny though.

GEEZ its bad enough on the disc. I was hoping it would have improved Halo 3.

Halo 3 maybe timing sensitive so its access speed from hard drive may have been deliberately limited

I got it today. It's quite big as it took 5-10 minutes to download on my 2 MB broadband, similar to the time the initial install took. I have no idea what it's for though. I wonder if they've fixed the broken Private Chat between an NXE and non-NXE dash.
