I've never played a 10/10 game, even the games I love/loved and had huge enjoyment from have had something (sometimes quite a lot ) wrong with them.

There are others I'd love to include but off the top of my head here's a list of 10 games of undoubted high quality that you'd have to prise from my cold dead hands:-

10 for me does not mean perfection, it means the level of enjoyment I got from playing the game. Perfection does not exsist because once it does nothing else beyond that point needs to be made.

Word in bold partially incorrect. In co-op, it's still one of the best games I've played on the 360 for sheer enjoyment. It was a regressive step by EDF standards, but still ahead of most of the game.

John Madden Football - MD (single handedly converted me to the sport, and years ahead of it's time for a sports game)

Super Mario World - Best. Game. Eveeer.

Mario 3 - Gives me goosebumps, in a way only Rachel Weisz could compare with.

Final Fight - Solid, satisfying brawler i wasted my youth on. A personality all of it's own, and yes.. it IS better than SoR2!

Streetfighter 2 - I shudder to think how much money/time i pumped into this back in the day... in fact, i play SFIV like i'm still playing SF2. Hence i'm **** at SFIV!

Goldeneye - Again, years ahead of it's time and absolutely sublime in MP.

Ghouls N Ghosts - Unrivalled atmosphere, beautifully designed, THAT music and not as hard as everyone says either...

Wave Race 64 - My favourite N64 game, with water physics yet to be matched 14 years later...

Castlevania SOTN -I just found playing this absolutely hypnotic from start to finish. It's a game i could complete over and over again and not get tired of.

I still remember paying something ridiculous like £6-700 for a PS1 on import with ridge racer when they came out in Japan, my mates all thought I was mad. Stuck it on, and the look of total awe on their faces was priceless as they all had Mega Drives at the time. I think that was the last time there was a genuinely gigantic leap in console generations for me.

I think it was the visuals and the soundtrack for me. With being on CD it obviously killed off the art of using chip-based music, but boy what a soundtrack! Especially hearing Rotterdam Nation for the first time...

I have to echo a couple of posters here in that I haven’t listed anything from this generation or anything from the 80’s, which is surprising as there have been some stellar games. But if the games to be listed are ones that I would play or have played again and again, then these are them:

Castlevania SoTN – If SMW is the best 2D platformer, then the seminal SoTN runs it mighty close and is probably on a par as the greatest 2D Platform/RPG game ever. HUGE, HUGE game, with top notch visuals and music to die for, coupled with intensely deep gameplay. The best in the series by a mile imo and the upside down castle was the icing on the cake, providing you sussed out how to access it. The stories of gamers who flogged the game thinking it was ended halfway through were many. Brilliant

Counter Strike & Team Fortress – My first real forays into online gaming after p*ssing around with Quake and Doom 2. How many hours did I lose to these two games online………Both absolutely brilliant in their day and still almost unrivalled years later for sheer multiplayer mayhem. Though to last on CS these days, you have to be utterly brilliant. Who can forget the immortal shout of…….MEDICCCCCCC………lol. Awesome

Half Life – Astonishing game. Set the FPS benchmark imo. Bettered by HL2 (albeit 7 years later!!!), but the older brother blazed the trail setting an incredibly high bar with wow factor impact and pure innovation and some of the best gameplay, set pieces and AI seen in a game

Mario 64 – Simply the best 3D platformer I have played and only matched almost 10 years later by Galaxy

Resident Evil – This blew me away when it was released on PS1 because it broke the mold of the RPG and was stellar (at the time) to boot, so gets a 10

Resident Evil 4 – Nuff said really. Cracking reinvention of a great franchise which was starting to age

Starfox 64 – Loved this game. Was as close to being in a Star Wars dogfight battle that I will ever get I reckon

Super Mario Kart – Superlative. The tightest and most rewarding racer ever. Multiplayer made it 10 times better

Super Mario World – The best 2D platformer of all time. The hidden secrets and levels in the game were just amazing as there were so many and at a time when Easter eggs were something you ate at Easter

World of Warcraft – The only game that kept me playing for 2.5 years straight accumulating 260 odd days logged. I don’t think I played anything else during that time, which is pretty f*cking sad when you think about it

Zelda Link to the Past – The finest Zelda game in existence. Would like to see this in 3D as it was just a great story and game

Zelda Ocarina of Time – Perfect realisation of Zelda in 3D and one of the best games I have ever played


I know that’s 12 and not 10 but I would find it hard to leave any of those out. At a push it would have to be Resident Evil and Star Fox
