but Diamond made the later series so good I still watch them regularly today. The cancellation of GM was as gutting as Thumb Bandits' cancellation imo.
I thought Dom just helped to run Games master into the ground myself . It went from a lovely family friendly shown , that I could watch with my parents or my grand when I came home from school . To a show with countless jokes and boob gags, and wish cracks to the guest, That I would be embarrassed to watch with my Gran

I did love Thumb Bandits though

Seriously, how many years ago was the GamesMaster thing, and he can't let it go...he still has to go about how he was ****ed over because everyone hated him being so great at games
To be fair, why can't most of us let it go ?. It must be a pisser that even now people bring it up in Interviews . I don't its nice or people think straight when they've been set up, especially when it's so public.

Fore sure the excuse was pathetic, But when one is set up, especially with those 2 pricks laughing in the background. I would seriously be pissed off .
I think the Dave did great for Games Master (sure he did a lot more to shape the show than Dom) And when it came to trying to fill in as much information as possible about the game, in a matter of seconds in the Queen's English . I don't think there was many better than Dave myself

Better than that useless twat that was Kurt

I doubt he was 'set up' at all though, he clearly went for the shortcut (implying that he had indeed played the game before, at least up until that part 10mins, or less, into the game) and then botched it.

If it wasn't a setup I'm sure Dom would have said so by now . I don't think he's never denied it , and most certainty didn't on the show. That said I would imagine Dave might have played the game before tbh.

I don't buy the excuse at all, and imo Dave would have been better off just saying it was a setup and I couldn't think straight , rather than the bull about not playing Imports . When most of the mag's he worked with, covered Imports

Whatever the truth behind Mariogate, I actually think he came across pretty well in the interview. I'd have a pint with the man.

To be fair he could just say "Oh I dunno, forgotten all about that now, was all just a silly incident anyway" but instead always proceeds to tell everyone how he was set up..."set up" playing a game, even now he needs to grow up, ffs!

Even if it was a "set up", the bloke was a self proclaimed king of gamers, maybe if he didn't act like such an obnoxious ponce in the first place, nobody would have felt the need to do so.

The way he talks about Nintendo kiddy games, seriously, that's not a gamer in my books, it's a stereotypical nerd ponce.

And if he said that, people would have had a right go at him for ducking the issue . And grow up ?. How many fights have happened on this board over games, or Edge reviews . Shouldn't we all really grow up ?

??. Some of the excuses players can give out after the football match will take the piss, but I would still class then as football players. Some of the excuses Football pundits and football fans given in defence of their sport defile belief sometimes

What about the managers, Ohhh they'll blame the Kits (yeah right Sir Alex), the football, The Pitch, the ref, the Crowd and God knows what else, rather than admit they ****ed up. But I still class them as footballers, Managers Fans ECT

If there is truth in the setup, I don't think that would justify it and, if it happened to me, I'd be pissed too. It's the Montreal Screwjob of gaming.

I didn't say it would make it okay, apologies if I inferred it.

Oh and yeah, when we're all arguing over games, we probably should grow up...there's more important things in life. Honestly, I don't even understand the analogy you are trying to make with the football thing. He's just being ignorant about an entire genre.

He was trying to 'cheat' by falling onto the lower section of the slide, hence the boos piped in at that point. Dominik Diamond actually mentioned this in an interview in GamesMaster magazine some years ago. I might even still have it somewhere.

Calling it a set up is ridiculous anyway. If they'd tampered with the pad so the controls were reversed and screwed him out of it, then yeah, but he clearly had played the game a lot to know that shortcut, he tried to be clever and failed, he didn't look very sporting trying to win in that way, and his reaction to losing just says it all. That's it, basically.

You don't class him as a gamer, because he made some rubbish excuse . Do you class Sir Alex as a Manager, as a Football man ?, Even though over the years, he's made some utterly pathetic excuses.

And this thing about growing up

How many football fans have big huge arguments, how many players hold a grudge against each other . It's only a game after all . but people can get worked up about it, same with gaming . It's not a dig meant for you, just trying to show how anyone can get worked up (what to some would be trivial matters )

I mean a bad EDGE review isn't really a life changing event, but one can still get worked up about it You might not like the man, his attitude, or his excuses but to try and make out Dave isn't a gamer is going OTT .

I'm sure that if that was the game the game planed to be played, Kurt and Dom would have said you were playing loads of it in the rehearsals and so on, as soon as Dave came up with the excuse

FWIW I do believe that he'd never played Mario 64 before that moment.

No. Definately not. 'Growing up' usually spells the death of true wonderment and curious people, generally speaking, are interesting people. Moreover, childlike people, in my experience at least, tend to be happier souls than those who have 'grown up'. As Charles Fillmore put it "It is the childlike mind that finds the kingdom".

But I'm rambling, so... getting back on track, should we stop arguing about games? Certainly.

I remember palying Mario 64 for the first time and falling off that slide (before you realise you can/have to control the speed). It did look like a set-up but he could have handled it better.

I really don't know that much about the bloke but love him or hate him, he's a character. If he wasn't this thread would be one post long.

TA, I don't think your analogies are making any sense. You are totally misunderstanding my point.

I'm not saying I don't consider him a gamer because of a **** excuse, I'm saying it because he's ignorant enough to dismiss a huge (and very popular) franchise and genre.

I don't know how I could make this much clearer to be honest!
