Was anybody else here at Eurogamer Expo today?

Interested in what everyone thought of it. Personally thought it was ace.

Highlights of the day for me were Brink, and working with a friend to (apparently) get one of the fastest completion times of the day, and playing Crysis 2 on PC.

Though what in gods earth was going on with the Xbox 360 version of Crysis 2? Please tell me that was nowhere near final...

It was a bit of a mixed bag. I played Motorstorm Apocalypse and watched a friend play Killzone 3 in 3D and the effect was disorienting and unconvincing- the 3D actually made me feel further removed from the game as the effect was so heavily used. Having a CPU car roar up behind you in Motorstorm also makes you jump back in your seat for a moment.

Castlevania and Vanquish were represented by demos already available on the PSN, which seems like a missed opportunity as Castlevania is only out next week and I've been told that Vanquish was represented by a different demo at TGS. No 3DS, which is slightly odd given that it had such a strong showing at TGS too. The Skyward Sword queue didn't budge much for most of the day either.

On the plus side, Donkey Kong and Kirby looked great, Gears 3 looked surprisingly colourful and I briefly rubbed shoulders with Jon Hare. I can't wait to play Fable 3 either- just have to sneak the first two in beforehand.

    Still no Jumpgate: Evolution...

I'd be surprised if that were true to be honest, a few weeks ago at a Sega event the PS3 version was a different one to the demo!

What was wrong with Crysis on 360?

Single digit framerate, item pop-up that would make Unreal Engine 3 quite proud, graphical glitches absolutely everywhere and it just felt extremely sluggish. Rough, rough, rough.

Then just a little bit further up you had the game being demonstrated on PC, and it was absolutely beautiful! Like night and day.

I'd hoped for a different one but lo and behold, all of the screens I saw had the boss fight from the PSN demo. Bit disappointing!

Lol, i don't think thats any surprise. PS3 and 360 still wouldn't be able to run the first Crysis reasonably even now after 4 years, never mind Crysis 2. Crysis has always been a showcase game for top end systems and i wouldn't have thought the 2nd would be any different.

Quite how the devs are going to optomise the code to allow it run on the consoles reasonably with such a limited specs is a mystery. I can see why they are doing it though to try and maximise their returns with a cross platform release after the success of the first.

Crysis on 360 looked hilariously bad.

Mind you, it was funny counting how many of the PC version crashed. Two of the GodisaGeek.com guys were playing the PC version, both frustrated by the popups saying "Press X to etc" or "Hold RT to...." when there was no equivalent in the menus. Both of the guys had it crash more than once as well.

The 360 version though looked like a different game, whilst the PC version looked (when it was running properly) stunning, the 360 looked like a cheap FEAR knockoff! Graphically though I think Killzone 3 can approach Crysis, at least what I saw of both.

Biggest disappointment for me was Fable III though. I can't get over how much of a Fable 2.5 that feels like. Looks different but the same and still seems quite button mashy in combat.

Anyone who went yesterday though, you have my sympathies. I've never seen traphic that bad in all my life after it closed. It took us 6 hours to get home (normally 90-120 mins) including 3 hours to travel 2 miles. The rain was insane, like the end of the world and several cars were pulling over, hazards on from water flooding the engines/sparks etc. The puddles were splashing about 3 metres high!

Crysis 2 is still 6 months away yet, plenty of time to get it running decently. If anyone can do it Crytek can.

Something else that made me laugh was MAFIA 2 having 12 (twelve) demo pods.

                      TWELVE.

To give some relevance to that, inFamous 2 had two demo stations in total. Gears of War 3 had 20.

Interestingly, certain Gears 3 stations had the campaign on them, but people were on call to ensure that the game was booted into Beast mode before anyone sat down.

Did you see the Nintendo stand? It looked like they were showing off their games via composite on the cheapest TVs imaginable.

                          Yup, I'd agree.

Some of the higher standard games weren't set up that well either tbh.

What exactly are you basing that on? Crytek have never released an optimised game in their life.

You just wait - round about now the publisher will be worried. Unless there's significant improvement and quickly, Crytek will have no option but to start ripping things out of the console version.

The worst thing was seeing the "Press X" to do this etc on the PC version.

I know there will be controller support, but bloody hell, demo the game properly!
