What do you think of PS2 Space Harrier then?

Got the same music, got the same enemies and attack patterns, got 'better' graphics, but it just doesn't feel right imo. I prefer the old floor graphics to the new fractal ones(although you can turn em off), and I miss 'Welcome to the Fantasy Zone!'.

Not really thiught much of any of the Sega Ages games yet, hope Golden Axe is an improvement.

I actually quite like Space Harrier. I wasn't too sure about the inclusion of a lock-on function, but it could add something. Jury's still out on that. but yeah, where is 'Welcome to the Fantasy Zone. get ready"?

Golden Axe I was really looking forward to but I'm a bit underwhelmed. It's a nice scrolling fighter but seems a little underwhelming. It plays just as it should, but the package as a whole feels rather rushed. The in game cut scenes feel unfinished and practically silent for example. The character models are made up of a depressingly low number of polygons and the defeated enemies don't turn to stone when defeated which was rather gutting. The game is also ridiculously easy. After the surprisingly polished Monaco GP and Fantasy Zone, this is a bit of disappointment.

Still it does play nicely enough and it is Golden Axe. retains the class GA music as well. I think I'll probably go back to it every now and then.

it's ... um... okay i guess (I'm a massive fan of the original, so it was never gonna live up to expectations!)

          i'm trying to do a review - i'll post a link later.

Actually, the original Arcade version has a Lock-on feature - it's just not very obvious. When you move "over" an enemy there's a little blip and your next shot will fly straight at them, unless you lock on to something else first. Check it out on MAME! It's not really that noticeable because most of the time you're firing constantly anyway.

The only decent game in this Ages series to me seems like Bonanza Bros. I loved the original and this new version seems like it does it justice.

Don't really know why they even bothered to make these games 3D for the sake of it, it actually disgusts me that they treat these great series like that. You know something is wrong when the remake of Golden Axe ten years later looks worse than the original. Maybe its me.

Right, but the one PS2 version is slightly different. You can lock-on to multiple enemies in a Panzer Dragoon Orta or Rez stylee.

Without the immortal " Welcome to the fantasy zone. Get ready! " the game sucks big monkey plums.

Is this the fool that decided to omit it from the PS2 update.

                  Hope he likes padded cells!

Oh, right. Cheers. I can't wait to try it. Hopefully my copy is on my doormat as I type.

It says different things when you start the game, and one of the sayings _is_ "Welcome to the Fantasy Zone, Get Ready!".

I'm rather partial to the alternative "Get busy Harrier, Dragon Land is screaming!".

I'm with C', I'm really rather enjoying this.

The lock on is fun, but play with out it and its near identical to the original arcade. Coolio!

I like this game very much. It seems more polished than Golden Axe and is sold out in many places in Japan. My favourite Sega Ages game so far.

For me it comes second after the brilliant Fantasy Zone. Of the 5 releases so far I'd rate them:

                              1. Fantasy Zone (the update has a nice crisp look that retains the appeal of the original game, yet looks nice and sharp and compares wel to todays games).
                              2. Space Harrier
                              3. Monaco GP
                              4. Golden Axe (I am massively disappointed with this. Needed another month of tidying up I reckon. Still that music helps)
                              5. Phantasy Star: Generation 1 (On account that I don't have a clue what's happening)
