    Ooops, posted this elsewhere... Anyway!

Right, I got my copy of Space Harrier and Golden Axe today...

Space Harrier is most disappointing, graphics are on the verge of dull to terrible and I also noticed some slow down.
They also totally took out the chequered flooring.
The guy you control moves far too slow!!!
There's also a smart bomb and a lock of missle thing similar to Panzer Dragoon.
Not one I'd play again I'm afraid which is a shame as I had massive hopes for this. 3/10 at the most.

Golden Axe is in my opinion quite is average but it does capture the original Golden Axe pretty well.
Graphics are average and each character has two attack moves.
It's not one of the games that I'd play on my own but with a mate, it could make it a fun night completing it together. Probably 5/10 for this.

On the whole, for these two, if they were ever released in the UK these two games would be worthy of a blockbusters rent a night sort of viewing.

Saying that in Sega's favour they are quite cheap in Japan and my mate who went to the Tokyo Game Show recently has said that Out Run and Virtua Racing is looking really nice...

Well i just can't make up my mind about this. It feels a bit slugish and maybe rushed (you cannot pick up items when you restart after dying) the bosses look poor the way they move and the dragon ride bonus level doesn't seem to move very naturally.

These gripes aside it plays much like the original but i do prefer it with the fractals off. Also it uses the same continue method as the pc engine version (level 6 and 13) which works well.

Thumbs up from me (just) but i still prefer the original.

I love the game, although admittedly I'm such a Harrier slut that I probably couldn't dislike it even if I really tried. Like most budget releases it's a swings-and-roundabouts affair of flaws and inspired touches, but there's a real confidence to it that compliments how magical the original is. If you like that sort of thing.

If it's been doing as well as venom says I hope that Sega considers a new reworking when they start their first batch of all-new, all-accessible titles and give it to Sega Wow or (be still, my beating heart) Red.

Got Space Harrier this morning (along with Golden Axe).

I just feel that it's an opportunity lost by Sega. I know they had R&D budget constraints but they really should have done much better IMHO.

Slow down, pop-up and average graphics and effects.

Game still plays very well though but I would also liked to have seen the original game in there as a bonus. Is it unlockable?

My copy is up for sale in the classifieds BTW.

Golden Axe I've yet to open.

Am I right in thinking this is a first impression? Because obviously you can choose to have the original floor effect.

I was initially a tiny bit disapointed too. The slowdown and pop-up are pretty noticeable and harrier clearly moves a lot slower than the arcade version, even using the analogue stick.

But after a couple of days it's really grown on me. Ramping the difficulty up to "Hard" increases the speed of the enemy shots and makes it feel a lot more like the original. Increasing the number of lives to five also makes for a little less replaying of levels.

I found the additional weapons added a lot to the gameplay once I had figured out when best to use them. Now I'm finding the PS2 iteration marginally more fun than the original via MAME - not bad for $20.

Does anyone know of any unlocks yet? I heard there was an "arrange" mode which can generate random levels for you. And the original has to be in there somewhere...

ft: Sega have stuffed-up big time. If they cant get this update series right for the fans, it proves they have lost the plot.

There may be a few of the big names left at Sega but I get the impression that development it being done a a new breed. Unfortunately they seem inept and lack the spark that made their elders heroes.

I think Sega may deserve to be put to rest, the fans should give-up on them.
