Disgaea, and also FFXI, which are prolly the two best in their respective genres to this day.

GT4, WEnline and many more to come

Still to answer your question my PS2 owns me. It has alot of games I love. So when it comes time for history to judge it, I believe it will be successful.
Erm sorry, but maybe you did not read my post properly. Where do I mention sales figure or anything. Or affecting sales...Read the post.

And no Iam not from Gamefaqs, but what the hell does that have to do with anything.

I was commenting on all your threads about what we all think of certain games and if PS2 is king or not. Just some friendly NTSC ribbing.

It just reminded me of gamefaqs.

Ahhh, in the initial post, you're probably comparing the worst graphics of the GameCube to the best on PS2. The likes of Final Fantasy 10 can easily be surpassed by the cube

But fanboyism aside, I far prefer the GameCube. Ignoring the PS2's obvious faults; it's easy breakability, generally poor graphical performance, awful analogue sticks, the GameCube still outdoes it (imo). The console seems to have more of a... 'loving' feeling to it. It's small, it's cute, it has the little button that pops the disc out of the drive. The handle is really useful and doesn't get in the way (because the plugs would stick out the back anyway), the discs are a nice size, and the games are lovely. And while the PS2 has tonnes of games, I'd say the GC has probably more AAA titles than the PS2, whereas the PS2 has plenty of games that are playable and enjoyable. If you get where I'm coming from.

I'm not complaining though, I like 'em both otherwise I wouldn't have bought them!

It is all very well looking at the PS2 and claiming it has some of the top games from each genre, but yuo have to remember that in most cases the only reason it has these is because of its success in the first place.

The best selling console is clearly going to attract the most games, and within this mound of games you are sure to find games near the top of their respective genres.

If I was to analyse how good the PS2 was as a console, it would have to rate at the bottom of the current generation - graphically it is certainly the worst but the length of loading times, and the abysmal front end are also very poor compared to both the XBox and GC.

Had the PS2 not of got off to the flying start it did (which lets face it is down to a combination of marketing and the penetration of the PS1) I dont think we would be saying the same things about it.

                    Oh dear.

A man is bored at work on a friday afternoon, and posts a few threads in a forum titled gaming discussion, to get other gamers opinions on games and to generally pass the time. I did not realise my topics had to pass the NTSC militia/hierachy.

I never asked if PS2 is King did I?

I just said it has as a console exceedeed my expectations, and that it is an amazing feat that the oldest console out can still hold its own.

                    Oh well............

yes. without a living doubt. anyone who thinks this isn't the case clearly doesn't have a brain to think with.

saying that, how many has the GBA sold?

Indeed, so let's keep in OnTopic people. Che, if a thread's obviously a turkey, then it will die it's own death. Jay, it's always dodgy ground starting a topic about how great (even if it's relative) a console is, cos even though most people here don't seem to care either way, there will always be a few that get all wound up.

Btw. Welcome to ntsc-uk! (Better late than never with the welcome...)

the PS2 has a lot of good games, but it doesn't have THE best game in ANY genre, unless you really, really like GT3 and refuse to look past the PS2 versions of GTAVC/Burnout2/WinningXI to find better versions elsewhere.

it also really does fail technically, especially next to the GC, where most big games feel utterly great and are completely free of loading times.

also, I feel this kind of thread is pointless and just brings out negative feelings from everyone.

The PS2 has some great games.
I'd probably like it more if my taste was broader and more accomodating and if I ****ing had it modded from the start like I should have. What a dumbass.

                                LOL

Right, yeah, all the good games on the PS2 are actually ****.
No best of genres on the PS2 at all? Wow tell that to the beat 'em up heads where it has (i thought undoubtedly - but I am sure someone can put me right) the best games of the current crop. GGX and VF4?
Winning Eleven 7 is great. Don't like it, 6 FE is not bad - then 6 etc.
I'd like to know which format has the better version of WE. Also, better version of GTA3 Vice City? Fair enough on Burnout but I'd rather play initial-D anyway so whatever...

To add to the "good games on PS2 (apparent) shocker!"
Ape Escape 2 is the most charming platformer I have played for years. No mention of Amplitude/Frequency. R-type? MGS2? There are lots and I honestly think that if a lot of the "dismissed" games were on another format they would be more highly rated. If Nintendo had made Ape Escape (from the PS1) everyone would have creamed their pants (which would have been differently coloured depending on their skills).

rjpageuk...I don't really mind too much "why" this is the case. But I think you might be surprised that a lot of the really good games on the PS2 are actually in house. A lot of people seem to forget this. Fantavision, the Ribbon and Parappa series, Ico, GT series, Ape Escape, Amplitude etc. SCE (their bits) have some of the best devs around yet people seem to be adamant that Sony have bought all their quality. That is ignoring the stuff that was by Square when Sony was helping them along quite a bit (pre Enix). Second party games?
If I was to rate it as a console I'd say, ooh, aren't those games good.
