Anyone else begrudge paying retail price for a Beat 'em Up?

I don't buy many beat 'em ups, but I purchased Tekken 6 on release date (paid full price) and was looking to buy MVC3 also, but am I alone in feeling that ?40 is too much? The beat 'em up style is so one dimensional, granted games add in extra gametypes etc, I just feel like you don't get alot of game for your money. 10 enviroments and a selection of characters

Personally it's the genre I grudge the least paying full price for. I always know I'm going to get value out of my purchase and I usually play the game on and off for ages afterwards.

Depends on the game. I wouldn't pay full price for Tekken since it'll be one game I'm not interested in, but Street Fighter 4 and its Super iteration have collectively cost me £55 and that's been a very worthwhile investment. I've got mates who play the game and we're generally at a pretty decent standard. I've played the game far more than I would have expected so it's been a great buy.

**** no. I paid ?70 for BlazBlue Continuum Shift and have played it over 100 hours. SSF4 i've put about 150 hours into. Beat em ups pose far greater value for money than any other genre going honestly. I paid for SSF4 on PS3 and 360 and can't complain at all.

yeah i'd echo those feelings, I love fighters and manage to get hours upon hours of enjoyment out of them. I can see why some people wouldn't though as it does take some dedication to get into a fighter.

Same as the above - I've had more value per pound from fighters than just about any other genre.

I payed full price for Street Fighter 4, I'm rubbish at it online and hardly play it, so I probabaly shouldnt have bought it, but its still a good game so I have kept it in my collection.

However I dont think Ive ever paid full whack for any other beat em up before, I just dont play them enough to justify the price, even the ones that feature 500000 hit combos never seem to have much depth to them to me.

Funny you should mention this as I was thinking just the same thing yesterday. Fighters do not hold my interest anymore like they used to in the past. I paid ?12 for Street Fighter 4 and played it about 10 times. Borrowed Tatsunoko and played it once and have no intersest in returning.

I would however pay ?40 for a HD remake of Capcom VS SNK as for me that is the best fighter around.

                  I'd pay £50+ for 3s online, oh wait. :3

You're the reason the 2D shmup genre has been so maligned all these years.

I'm sick of 60 hour 3D fetch quests and first-person shooters.

Beat-em-ups and 2D shmups offer precision and beauty in small but refined packages.

My thought is as long as you get fun and enjoyment out of it then the price is an off thought , i mean you can say the same about most FPS game the core single player is short but the deeper you get into the game and better you get the more fun you have and then there if your brave and feel your good there is online
                      that is what i think

Post of the year, couldn't agree more.

Paid full whack for Tekken6 & although I've had my fair share of whinges have really enjoyed it and still play it today.
For me, far more challenges than your average FPS, time challenge, survival, scenario etc.

Its all relative though isn't it. For instance my wife has spent hours on Brain Training on the DS and managed to 100% all of the Sudoku on it. For me I wouldn't pay a pound for it, yet she has got her £29.99 worth from it. Not that it's her game mind.....

Yep. I've put 100s of hours into SFIV/SSFIV. More than I've put into any game ever. Best value for money ever. Really shows up other games for the bloated filler fests they are too.

I'll play a beat 'em up and shump, I have no problem, but as far as I am concerned this small but refined package needs to come with a small price.
