And why do you always carry your mobile, but not your GBA as well? Because you've not got room for both, would be my guess.

So why would you want a phone thats as large as an SP and an 8210 put together? Surely you won't have room for that either?

'tis a shame nobody has an email addy for the people at nokia's head office so we could email those poll results, the SP/phone device and some words of 'encouragement'.

face it, they know it's ****... we just need to pound it into their skulls.

The burning question for me is...

... will you be allowed to play an n-gage on a plane?

                ... I suspect not.

Nintendo better think of something though as the GBA is stupefyingly underpowered when compared with the PSP, and the N-Gage is a phone as well as a game system which is very convenient, plus Nokia might sell millions via subscription plans and such.
The original GB was 'stupefyingly underpowered' compared to virtually all its competitors and did that stop it from selling? Handheld gaming is about practicality, not having the best tech.

Also, I'd prefer to have my porrtable gaming and phone separate, thanks. Each to their own I suppose.

Some ass in Gamestation tried to get me to buy one today, saying it's the best thing he's ever seen. After I stopped laughing I said 'no thanks'

I work in a mobile phone shop at the moment. We had the Nokia N-Gage in yesterday and I have been having a bit of a play with all the functions. I have read a lot of articles and comments all over the place putting it down and saying it's crap. So when I turned it on I was expecting the worst. However I was surprised at quality of this mobile.

Firstly you get a 32MB card already inside the unit. This has a snowboarding game which takes up 19MB of the space. So you are left with 13MB of free space.

The actual snowboarding game it's self is not great but does beat anything I've played on the GBA in a similar genre. Other games like Tomb Raider, Sonic and Tony Hawks are in tomorrow so I'll try them out too.

The MP3 player works very well just like a stand alone one does. With 13MB you don't get a lot on but it is very simple to use and with another memory card you'll be fine.

It also has a built in radio which is good quality. You can also if you want record the radio program or song you are listening to straight to the memory card.

When using as a phone the clarity is very good. No loss of sound or distortion that I heard. ( I used an Orange Sim card ) and yes the phone does come unlocked so any sim can be put in it. (Unless you buy the phone from an Orange or T-Mobile shop)

The shape of the unit is ok while playing games and navigating around the phone but once you try and text you'll wish you never bought one. It could just be getting used to it but it was not easy.

Pricey as a stand alone games machine yes. Pricey as a new mobile, No. This phone has more than most top end phones including Bluetooth technology.

Anyway that was my thoughts on the N-Gage.

                        Thanks for those impressions...

                        But would you buy one?

The original GB beat out the Lynx, GameGear and NEC's beauty because all of its competitors were too large to be successful as handhelds, and had a battery-life that prevented them from being succesful as handhelds.

For those reasons, and Tetris, the GB, though underpowered even in 1989, beat out everything that tried to get in its way.

Unless Sony releases a Lynx-sized PSP with a 3-hour battery-life(which they won't), Nintendo better do something.

"To be fair, it takes up to 128MB memory cards storing up to 8 hours of music.

and, the people on this forum is hardly the target demographic, plus cell, erm, mobile phones are sold in a different manner than GBAs.

On the Edge E3 DVD, Shigeru Miyamoto said that a separate mobile phone and game system is preferrable. Dumb. I hardly ever bring my GBA, unless it is a long trip, but I always carry my mobile.

I want one device that does both. But, that is not to say that the N-Gage is the answer. "

What essankay and connect mentioned in their posts were exactly what I throught. I got one on the 7th (release day) as I always wanted a new phone that can play good games and music on and N-gage can do it all.

As one of my mate said it is crap:
                            crap as game player
                            crap as mp3 player
                            crap as a phone

Well I played the snow boarding game that came with the phone, which I am very impress with the qualitly of the game, it is not the best game in the world but you could see the quality and the potential of the N-gage as a console. I also got Tomb Raider as well even though everyone played it 7 yrs ago on PS. TBH the control is a bit doggy but overall still pretty good fun. Also ppl mentioned about the screen not being right (wrong way), but I really don't found that a big problem and it sure does not effect the quality of the game.

As a MP3 player, I know it only got 13MB memory off the unit but you can always get bigger memory if you need. I order a 64MB memory and will post again once I tried it.

As a phone, it might not be the best design and tbh I really don't think is a good design phone, but consider that it need a large enough screen for gaming, so I give it credit for that.

The only thing I don't like about this phone is you actually spk into the side of the phone which made me look like a knob, but I use it as radio a lot these 2 days (will use as MP3 once I got the memory), so the head phone (hands free kit) is always pluged in when I am out, so I just use the hands free and problem solved.

Price is not too bad for a new phone, many new camera phone could easily cost ?200 + and personally I found camera phone a bit pointness and much prefer a phone that can play quality games and MP3 for the same money.

Well, if it's merely mediocre as a games machine, and ok as a phone, then I can see the point... a bit.
Still, I'm more than happy with my much smaller, old Motorola V66 and my SP.

                              oh, and...

You have heard about the PSP's supposed battery life, haven't you?
