100% So AM2 have said they are gonna make another one?

I hope they do. It's the best fighting series of all time imo, better than even SF and thus one genre in which SEGA are one of the undisputed leaders.

Tho if it did not come out on consoles that would REALLY suck.
So do you think we're lookin at the next gen consoles for VF6?

I bought Virtua Fighter 5 for a fiver and still sold it. I think fighters have pretty much had their day. Shenmue 3 aside, Outrun 3 and possibly Daytona 3 are all I'm interested in unless they can make a decent Sonic game...

While I sort of agree. I stopped playing them for around 6 years after getting bored with them at last and now I love them again. I enjoy F4 Evo the most, I find SF4 to be a little cheesy.

Anyway, perhaps a poll for this Shenmue lark to see if people think it is a good idea?

They're all getting far too complex for their own good. I still find VF the best (Saturn) It's a game where all your mates can pick and play and have a chance of wining a fight (with a need to read a novel); For much the same reasons why I still think X-men COTA is the best 2D fighter. Still love the old polygon look of Saturn VF, and just love the incredible music (with the still the most bone crushing sound effects in a fighter), Even after all these years is still the best 3d fighter for me

As for VF 6, I think SEGA would be better off doing a Fighting Megamix II for the Home/Arcade and bring in some of the Eternal Champion and Last Bronx fighters into the Mix, and bring back the multi layer stages from Pt 3, to inject some freshness into the title.

All That said VF 5 is still awesome, and the modelling on the characters almost 2nd to none (especially on Eileen) Even though its Linberg based, the animation and character models are better than those in the likes of DOA III, Tekken 6 (games running on much more powerful hardware)

The sales figures for Street Fighter 4 tend to disagree.

I like the depth to VF5.
If you want to get good it actually requires some time.

I just thought the mission mode was a bit long, so I only completed one arcade. as to graphics, I think it still looks better than any other fighter.

Noooooooooooooooooooo. By all means Sega should make a Fighters Megamix 2 but VF6 should remain true to the series and not become some dumbed down unbalanced mess just so that it can have a massive roster of characters like Tekken 6.

Completely agree. IMHO easily the best 3D fighter of this generation. Hardly surprising it looks better than DOA3 though....

I'm still hoping (probably in vain) for a console conversion of VF5:FS

Quite what any of this has to do with Shenmue though, I am not sure. I would love to see the Shenmue story completed (in a game) but it's been so long since 1 and 2 that I think they would have to be re-released in some form before 3 could make an appearance. Just not sure there is enough interest outside of forums like this to justify the expense though.

I do not know if AM2 have said they'll make another one. But in my 3 years in Japan it seemed to make money in the Arcades and have loads of cabinets, it was also regularly updated. The latest updates were not released on the consoles so not sure if they will release a console version, but I'm 90%-100% there will be an Arcade version. They last updated the Arcade ranking 28 Feb so I guess it must be doing k.

                    Latest update official site

The latest version is Virtua Fighter 5 R which had 2 new characters if I remember. Before that was Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown, which was a tweaked VF5, again no console update. Official sites below.

I still love Virtua Fighter and enjoy playing it. It is super deep if you want it to be or a bit more shallow if you don't. I like the variations in characters styles too.

R came out in 2008, Final Showdown in 2010. R introduced Jean Kujo and brought back Taka-Arashi from VF3.

Sorry my bad. I got a bit confused with the dates. Jean Kujo is really cool. I wonder if they would use any of the fighting styles in Shenmue III if they made the fighting system a bit deeper.

To be fair this thread is barely a topic. It is literally all ifs and buts!

Yeah Shenmue has been heavily influenced by VF. Ryo was based on Akira (who in VF5:FS has a Ryo jacket) and I expect Lan Di was based off of Lau. Shenmue 2 had boss characters who fought with styles taken from Sarah, Wolf, Jeffery and Lau.

Really hoping for a VF5:FS console announcement at least by E3. The new version seems faster and more accessible but also a bit more like Tekken. Dunno how people would take to it though as it's completely different to the big current mainstrem fighters like SF4 and MVC3 and the next Tekken game is on the horizon with a lot of hype and flash.

Bear in mind I'm tired - but I would quite like to see a VF game with Ryo in it
