    96/100 based on 89 critics.

The next chapter in the Elder Scrolls saga arrives from the Bethesda Game Studios. Skyrim reimagines the open-world fantasy epic, bringing to life a complete virtual world open for you to explore any way you choose. Play any type of character you can imagine, and do whatever you want; the legendary freedom of choice, storytelling, and adventure of The Elder Scrolls is realized like never before. Skyrim's new game engine brings to life a complete virtual world with rolling clouds, rugged mountains, bustling cities, lush fields, and ancient dungeons. Choose from hundreds of weapons, spells, and abilities. The new character system allows you to play any way you want and define yourself through your actions. Battle ancient dragons like you've never seen. As Dragonborn, learn their secrets and harness their power for yourself.

Further than this i'm not going to bite, so as to keep this about dragons dogma.

The only thing that Skyrim doesn't do brilliantly is the combat, which was better than in Oblivion but still far from perfect, so that's where this can hopefully improve on it. Otherwise I don't see it being anywhere near as good.

Big and Generic should really be Bethesda's motto. Or rather, Big, Generic and Buggy.

Oh sorry, didn't mean to troll, but I do honestly think its a really bad playing game and presentation is pretty piss poor too, especially for such a high budget title. I'm not sure what the critics were playing, but clearly a game not having remotely decent gameplay doesn't seem to bother them...

I only said it was like Skyrim 'cos it has a large open world and is a fantasy RPG! I don't know how much it has been inspired by Elder Scrolls but from what I've seen it has quite a few neat ideas of its own. A day\night cycle in which the game gets really evil at night (nasty enemies come out, your vision goes to almost nothing) which means you have to plan adventures out of the safe areas - leave at dawn, attempt to be back by dusk.

              Could be really neat

The combat is the only thing thats a little clunky, everything else is fine.

Other games in the genre can only look in admiration at what skyrim achieves overall in terms of scope, design, art, music, atmosphere.

Certainly dont agree with presentation being piss poor either.

In the grand scheme of things for me the bugs dont detract one iota from the overall experience either. I think i stumbled across one bug serious enough to have me restart from a previous save....in 100 hours of playtime.

Anyway we'll have to agree to disagree, but i'm with the 89 critics on this one.

Boring my ass. Did you visit places like markarth, to name but one of many beatifully designed places?

ANYWAY....this is getting daft now, my comparison with skyrim was for obvious reasons, if people hate skyrim then fine, but can we get back on topic.

Considering who's making it i wouldn't be suprised if they charge you 100msp everytime you want to save

Surley if you thought Skyrim was boring it was only if you find Generic Fantasy boring.

The Lord Of the Rings films (and novel) are up there with some of the most well appriciated stories of all time, yet at the end of the day its basically a simple tale that has every generic fantasy element imaginable going on within it. People like it becuase what is there is done well.

Skyrim is no different, and infact its actually less Generic than somthing like lord of the rings as it doesnt feature typical races or a singular brewing molevelant evil.

To say the Art direction in skyrim is poor becuase its Generic is completely missing the point of the game, the elder scrolls is a traditional fantasy type series, thats the whole point.

This looks like Skyrim but with an actual game attached to the first person wandering.
