What kids think of the old games

    Check out http://www.egmmag.com/article2/0,4364,1338767,00.asp

"Would today's tykes tolerate the classic games you grew up with? Kids do say the darndest things in this uncut version of an EGM article?now with a bonus game not included in the original story!
By Crispin Boyer and Shawn Elliott
    Photography by Michael Sexton"

    My favourite test?

    "E.T. the Extra- Terrestrial
    Atari 2600 ? 1983
The original lousy licensed game, E.T. had players fishing phone parts and Reese's Pieces from holes in the ground. EGM voted it the worst game of all time. We forced the kids to play it because?well, we had to when we were little. Why shouldn't they suffer, as well?"

to be honest, I'm sure all kids would have the same impressions, yanks or not.

classic games are like classic music... kids will growing up disliking the stuff their dad used to play... but when they get older, they'll start to appreciate the finer things...

One quote that really annoyed me though was when the 12 year old kid says "we're not going to play any mature games are we?".

        Mature!

        MATURE!

        FFS.

Andrew: Someone take over before I lose my dignity. [Mario picks up the hammer power-up]

Andrew and Niko: Hey, that's from Super Smash Bros.

Andrew: So that's where they got the idea from.

It's quite interesting to read IMO (so far anyway)

Tim: My line is so beating the heck out of your stupid line. Fear my pink line. You have no chance.

Actually I thought the article was mildly 'stage-managed' to say the least. Some funny quotes though, esp the above.

And why you guys are getting so defensive beats me. If someone had asked me to play hoop-and-stick when I was 11 I'd have taken the piss big time.

Too many rose tinted glasses when people remember their youth if you ask me [/b]

Some of it was very funny. I think it was designed to be funny and not a 'look at the ignorance of our youth' kind of article

On Space Invaders: I'm sure everyone who made this game is dead by now.

That was absolutely class. Really amused me. I'm surprised that 11 year olds knew about ET being buried in the desert though...

This made me chuckle - a great comparison for Space Invaders -

This is nothing compared to Grand Theft Auto III, because you can't steal a taxi cab, pick up somebody, then drive into the ocean with him.

Good article, lots of fun to be had there.

I'm only four years older than the eldest one there, and I really can't get enough of Tetris and Mario, they're great. Ok, so I had a NES when I was four, but surely they all grew up in the Gameboy age too.

Yeah, no other nation's children would dislike it.

Brian: I saw a documentary on this. The game was so popular in arcades that it got jammed up with quarters.

John: In this thing? [Points to the Pong game console]

                          *Sobs uncontrollably into keyboard.

                              Great Article, top quality read:

Kirk: And you can't pick up an AK-47 and go kill?hey, those aliens on the top row, you use them in EGM for stuff.

EGM: Yeah, we use them to end our articles. They do kinda look like they're from Space Invaders, don't they?

Tim: They're going to sue you.

Kirk: I'm sure everyone who made this game is dead by now

                              Ha ha ha.

Might have to look into importing EGM somehow. Sort of like Edge, but possibly less pretentious (oh come on now, we all love it, but you do think it sometimes don't you). It pissed me off when they slated the E3 build of Grabbed by The Ghoulies just because it had a boring tutorial.
