There's no permanent record of whats said on IRC though. With the thread you can read it later and try to work out what everyone was watching at the time...

Permanent proof of the ramblings of sleep deprived gamers, haha.

The ramlbings from when the conference is actually live is nothing to be missed. It's usually ten people making the same observation at the same time:
          "ohmygod new xbox!!!!"
"Hey, they announced a new Xbox?"
"****, a new Xbox console. Wow."
" new cbox, didbt expext that"
A new Xbox just got announced!"

          ...and so on.

I like it when every post on a page is just "OMG!"

Or when like five people post the same screen cap of a crazy moment... I'm looking at you, Konami.

Conference threads are the only thing that make the more boring conferences barable. You can't turn them off because the second you do it's "and finally, we've a small announcement of... Chrono Trigger 3!". Microsoft's one last year with faked footage and kinect party games was terrible, if it hadn't been for the ability to talk about how awful it was during the conference, there may have been casualties.

I'm all for the talking, but it should either be done in a separate thread, or in a live chat. Think we should keep the main threads as neat as possible. The live chat could easily eat up 20 pages that will be a chore to read through afterwards.

                      I totally disagree.

The conference threads here are hilarious and fun to take part in precisely because they're fast flowing - threads like that never happen in NTSC-uk at any other time of year because it's too sedate (and we're usually all far too sensible and cynical).

It's worked great for previous years and I don't think anything needs to change.

Amen. It is a NTSC-UK tradition. How long have I been on this site now? Ten years? (wow... my word... ten years) - and alongside the excitement of E3, it is all about the quick ramblings in the conference threads. Reading them back makes for some hilarious reading. Nothing needs to change here - roll on June!

I don't really read the E3 thread, usually due to the times involved. I appreciate it when someone provides a summary of the main points so I don't have to wade through pages.

However, if it's anything like the World Cup thread, with loads of live comments, then it's a blast to be involved in. We can't go getting rid of threads that no-one reads bar a handful, otherwise my main haunts would vanish straightaway. Likewise, we can't get rid of threads that have loads of short comments and banter. They make the forum what it is, for better or worse, and develop the posting relationships between a lot of members.

You only had to be in the Eurovision thread last week to see how much fun threads like this are.

So long as the thread starters remember to update the first post with the big announcements, it's not too much of an issue with news getting lost.

Most major games will get their own headlines threads too.
