Why do they bother? Why do Sony and MS bother? If you're going to offer downloadable retail games then they need to be priced competitively. You're not getting anything physical and they take up too much storage space.

There is a good reason in fact... If DD were signicantly cheaper than bricks & mortor (or online) stores then the stores would accuse M$ etc of doing them out of business. There would then be no stores left to sell the rest of the video games.

Whilst I agree that the DD prices on the 360 and other online systems (Origin in particular) are totally stupid, until we get to a situation where DD purchases can be sold by the shops as a code, this is going to happen.

For me personally digital is of higher value than physical and I would happily pay a bit more for a digital download over a physical copy. I live in a small flat and the beauty of digital products is that they take up pretty much no physical space. So for me the lack of physicality is an improvement and I'm happy to pay more money because it offers a better product to me. I've rebought things on Steam at higher prices than they go for on eBay just so I can get shot of the old physical copies of PC games and free up space in my draws for example.

One of my mates is also notorious for trading games in when strapped for cash meaning we have to stop playing those games during multiplayer meetups. When he bought some Games On Demand he explicitly stated that one of the reasons was because it prevented him trading it in later on, that way we'd always be able to play with him.

Anyway... I stuck in an order at Amazon for a UK unit whilst they had the Premium Pack going for ?199.99, and my order still says that price despite the new one being ?299.99. I'm not expecting them to honour it, but if they did that'd be quite splendid. Really I'd like a J-unit, but until the titles I really want (Wonderful 101 / Bayonetta 2) are dated I'm not sure there's any rush.

Iwata confirmed there will be download versions of games, which I'm guessing is Ninty 1st party ones the same as the 3DS.

Yes, but you can't download the game for free if you've bought the physical version though, can you?

I wouldn't imagine there would be any install options for the games, would like to be proven wrong but it is Nintendo after all.

"It'll be outdated within a year" - Wasn't the Wii outdated when it was released, being after the Xbox360? So that makes the Wii U a whole year's worth better than the Wii! His other points are all good though. Apart from the iPhone5 being a step forward.
