Well thank god for the higher resolution crowds, this completely justifies pricing this the same as other console versions

"The crowd was something we knew we could have improved so we took that opportunity"

Yes but we the gaming public are just a cash cow who these company's think can be milked at will. It just seems the closer we get to launch and with new details coming out everyday it just makes the Wii U become more and more of a rip off and at the moment just a completely pointless console. I just wonder of how many of the online functions will not be available from day one and will not be for a few months, just like 3DS was.

It did, but the blu ray drive wasn't solely to blame, the whole console cost a bomb to produce (over $850 if I recall, vs the 360's $500ish)

Sony aren't in the financial position to take a $300 hit on each machine this time, as I gamer I pray that the consoles are over ?400, it would be quite indicative that we are getting state of the art techonolgy. Especially given that manufacturing costs have risen quite substantially over the last 7 years.

This is going to be a massive problem for Sony next gen. On the one hand your right in that next time they cant financially take such a huge hit on each system so will probably have to charge ?400+ for it but at the same time they cannot afford to make it this expensive because Microsoft can afford and probably will take the hit. I do think it does depend how closely they both are launched because if they are close then the launch games for both are going to be massively important. Its going to be a interesting 2013, i hope anyway.

Now that Nintendo have gone for ?300, will Microsoft or Sony want consumers to think that their console is only worth the same as a Wii-U?

2014 for next Xbox is my bet.

Anybody who thinks they can get a PS4 or 720 for 300 quid, needs their head looked at.

It really is going to depend on just how much both Sony and Microsoft actually manage to cram into there machines and just how much value for money they are. Wii U is too expensive for what it is especially when you start adding any additional controllers and external memory etc. Im going to guess Microsoft will shoot for the ?350 mark and take the hit on each machine because they can and Sony ?400 upwards.

Maybe PS4 & XB3 will be 400 or over... in which case Nintendo for the win. This industry can't afford consoles that expensive. We aren't going to get uber powerful systems so costs needn't be high enough to warrant rrps so high. This is far from the same industry it was in 2005 when 360 launched, processing power isn't king (and history shows it never was). With no new propriety media format to push either and fierce market conditions the format with content and affordability will likely be king. The 3DS, Vita and possibly yet WiiU prove that high pricing isn't a viable option.
